Hi everyone, im new here =)

Question- I'm interested in information security and playing online server wargames (servers set up for legal hacking). And then it occured to me- could i virtualize a linux server on my pc and try to penetrate it through windows?

There are many images of systems that are already for you to attack. I have downloaded and used the ones at Foundstone ( http://www.foundstone.com/us/resources-free-tools.asp ) Check out the section titled SASS tools. You will find some great systems to practice pentesting against. You can also set up virtual systems in VMWare server. It is free and a great way to set up an isolated network. I have several virtual machines and some constitute an entire domain. I attack them from Windows and Linux distro's.
