I'm tring to get rid of malware

I've been going between Symantec AntiVirus, Sophos Root-Kit cleaner, and CCleaner, trying to clean up some form of rogue emailer I got. First thing I noticed was a anti virus program running one morning, one that I did not download. You know the kind, free scan, and then buy the program to get the "cures". I quit the program and then started scanning with everything I could find. A couple times I thought I had gotten rid of everything, but as soon as I connected back to the internet, Symantec came up with dozens of outgoing email scanning windows. I would pull the internet plug, and start scanning again. Each time I would get different results, saying I had this or that - but the results NEVER would match. I am guessing whatever I had was either changing, or causing the scan programs to go nuts. After going in this circle several times, and many, many reboots later I am hoping things are back to normal - and I am looking for that proof. I no-longer have the rogue emails going out, but once infected, I keep thinking it's not all the way gone.
