Hi!

So, shortly after I ran Hijackthis the whole screen turned blue and it had some DOS looking writing on it (that I didn't get a chance to read) and then the comp just restarted. When it rebooted Windows installer popped up and said it was installing something but I canceled it (then something about the Macdock or something showed up- maybe I should get rid of that (the previous owner installed it)?). Also, Windows Explorer popped up twice (right after hijackthis before it shut down and then after it restarted). It didn't go to a page it just said "Connecting..." I re-ran hijackthis and that log is below. Other than all of that, everything seems to be fine. Is there anything I should do to avoid having this kind of thing happen in the future?

First,
Fix entries.
  • Run the HiJack This.
  • Click on Do a system scan only button.
  • Search the entries as below and tick at the small box.

  • Close any other program and leave HiJackThis program alone.
  • Click Fix checked.

Next,
ATF by Atribune
Please download HERE and save to the desktop. Double-click ATF Cleaner.exe to open it.
Under Main choose:
    choose: Select All
    Click the Empty Selected button.
if you use Firefox:
    Click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
    Click the Empty Selected button.
    NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click NO at the prompt.
if you use Opera:
    Click Opera at the top and choose: Select All
    Click the Empty Selected button.
    NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click NO at the prompt.

Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program

Next,
Kaspersky Online AV Scan
Note: Internet Explorer should be used.
Please go to Kaspersky website and perform an online antivirus scan.
  • Read through the requirements and privacy statement and click on Accept button.
  • It will start downloading and installing the scanner and virus definitions. You will be prompted to install an application from Kaspersky. Click Run.
  • When the downloads have finished, click on Settings.
  • Make sure these boxes are checked (ticked). If they are not, please tick them and click on the Save button:
    • Spyware, Adware, Dialers, and other potentially dangerous programs
    • Archives
    • Mail databases
  • Click on My Computer under Scan and then put the kettle on!
  • Once the scan is complete, it will display the results. Click on View Scan Report.
  • You will see a list of infected items there. Click on Save Report As....
  • Save this report to a convenient place like your Desktop. Change the Files of type to Text file (.txt) before clicking on the Save button.
  • Copy and paste the report into your next.

Hi,

Qoobox - It's combofix folder, I will instruct to remove it later.
System Volume Information - We will create new system restore point and get rid off the old one.

Again, any question? :)
I will give final instruction after this.

Your system now is clean.
Let's do some cleaning and management.

First,
Discussion
When I start the computer Windows Installer starts up and I click "cancel" and then it flashes something about Mac dock 6 trial version. Should I get rid of that program?

Since it's trial version, you can proceed to uninstall.

Next,
Uninstall Combofix
  • Click on Start >> Run...
  • Now type in ComboFix /Uninstall into the and click OK.
  • Note the space between the X and the /Uninstall, it needs to be there.

Next,
clear system restore points.
This is a good time to clear your existing system restore points and establish a new clean restore point:
  • Go to Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore
  • Select Create a restore point > Click Next > Put the description as you wish > Click Create.
  • Next, go to Start > Run and type in cleanmgr
  • choose your root drive ( normally C: ) and click Ok.
  • after it calculates how much space you will save it will open up a new window
  • Select the More options tab at the top of the window
  • Choose the option to clean up system restore and click yes.
  • Go back to the Disk Cleanup tab.
  • Put a checkmark in all - except compress old files (leave this unchecked).
  • Click Ok then click Yes
This will remove all restore points except the new one you just created and clean unneeded files

SpywareBlaster.

Windows/Program Update.
Please make sure to have your Windows Automatic Update turn ON or you can do it manually.
Microsoft releases patches for Windows and Office products regularly to patch up Windows and Office products loopholes and fix any bugs found. Install the updates immediately if they are found.
To update Windows
  • Go to Start > All Programs > Windows Update
To update Office
  • Open up any Office program.
  • Go to Help > Check for Updates

You always can refer at both website to check either any updates are needed for your system.
