Got A Free Computer It just has problems

Another friend of mine had a house fire a while back. The insurance paid him for his computer even though there is nothing physically wrong with it so he decided to go get a new laptop with the money while the computer was getting cleaned to remove the smoke smell. When he got it back he didn't want it so now its mine. It had Bit torrent on it and was way out of date. I updated everything but it boots really slow takes like 5-10 minutes. It also says that it is installing a driver for Nvidia RAID driver and says it needs to restart to complete I restart just to go through it again. As out of date as the security software was Im sure there are some other issues I just haven't run into yet. I do plan on removing a lot of the software that is on the computer I'm going through what is on it now so I can decide what to keep.
