Hi G Wood

I'm noticing some connection time outs here and there.

Are you still getting this problem ??

Download and Run OTM

Download OTM by Old Timer and save it to your Desktop.
  • Double-click OTM.exe. (Vista users, please right click on OTM.exe and select "Run as an Administrator")
  • Copy the lines in the codebox below.
Code: Select all
:Processes

:Files
C:\Program Files\Greatis
C:\Program Files\UnHackMe
C:\Program Files\LimeWire

:Commands
[EmptyTemp]
[CreateRestorePoint]
[Start Explorer]
[Reboot]

  • Return to OTM, right click in the Paste Instructions for Items to be Moved window (under the yellow bar, Code box into OTMoveIt3 (1).) and choose Paste.
  • Click the red Moveit! button.
  • Copy everything in the Results window (under the green bar), and paste it in your next reply.
  • Close OTM
NOTE: If you are unable to copy/paste from this window (as will be the case if the machine was rebooted), open Notepad (Start->All Programs->Accessories->Notepad), click File->Open, in the File Name box enter *.log and press the Enter key, navigate to the C:\_OTM\MovedFiles folder, and open the newest .log file present, and copy/paste the contents of that document back here in your next post.

Please post back

Hi G Wood

Code: Select all
Still experiencing some but the number has been decreasing.

I am not an expert at this type of problem, I would suggest that you go to one of the forums below that specialize in more general computer problems.
They have people that know more about this sort of problem because it does not seem to be a malware problem.

Post them a link to this log

There are no more signs of infection in your system, so we are done here, and you are good to go, but first
we need to clean up and add some protection.

To re-enable your Emulation drivers, double click DeFogger to run the tool.
  • The application window will appear
  • Click the Re-enable button to re-enable your CD Emulation drivers
  • Click Yes to continue
  • A 'Finished!' message will appear
  • Click OK
  • DeFogger will now ask to reboot the machine - click OK
IMPORTANT! If you receive an error message while running DeFogger, please post the log defogger_enable which will appear on your desktop.

Your Emulation drivers are now re-enabled.

You need to update Adobe Reader to 9.3.3,

Please go to the link below, and download the update, run the update by double clicking on it,
you can delete the download once the update is complete.
http://ardownload.adobe.com/pub/adobe/r ... l_incr.msp

Delete BackLight and its log from your Desktop

Next
  • Double-click OTM.exe.
  • Click the CleanUp! button.
  • Select Yes when the "Begin cleanup Process?" prompt appears.
  • If you are prompted to Reboot during the cleanup, select Yes.
  • The tool will delete itself once it finishes, if not delete it by yourself.

There is no harm in keeping HijackThis installed, but if used incorrectly it could fry your system, I advise you to
go to add and remove programs and uninstall both of them, you can always download again if needed.

Keep Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware installed and updated, I would also keep Temp File Cleaner and run weekly to keep your system free of clutter.

Extra Protection and Advice

Install SpywareBlaster - SpywareBlaster will added a large list of programs and sites into your Internet Explorer settings that will protect you from running and downloading known malicious programs.

A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:

Using SpywareBlaster to protect your computer from Spyware and Malware

Winpatrol <= Download and install the free version of Winpatrol. a tutorial for this product is located here:
Using Winpatrol to protect your computer from malicious software

Visit Microsoft's Windows Update Site Frequently - It is important that you visit http://www.windowsupdate.com regularly.
This will ensure your computer has always the latest security updates available installed on your computer. If there are new updates to install, install them immediately, reboot your computer, and revisit the site until there are no more critical updates.

Microsoft isn't the only company whose products can contain security vulnerabilities, to check for other vulnerable programs running on your PC that are in need of an update,
you can use the Secunia Software Inspector - I suggest that you run it at least once a month

Download and Install a HOSTS File
A Hosts file is a plain text file which prevents your computer from inadvertently connecting to malware, spyware and adware sites by redirecting the connection request back to your own machine address (127.0.0.1). It is a very effective defense system.
If you are part fo a business network, if you are on AOL, or if you use Norton to scan e-mail, be sure to read the special instructions in the tutorial below..

Be sure to disable the service "DNS Client" FIRST to allow the use of large HOSTS files without slowdowns.
If this isn't done first, the next reboot may take a VERY LONG TIME.
This is how to do it. First be sure you are signed in as a user with administrative privileges:
Stop and Disable the DNS Client Service
Go to Start, Run and type Services.msc and click OK.
Under the Extended Tab, Scroll down and find this service.
DNS Client
Right-Click on the DNS Client Service. Choose Properties
Select the General tab. Click on the Stop button.
Click the Arrow-down tab on the right-hand side at the Start-up Type box.
From the drop-down menu, click on Manual
Click the Apply tab, then click OK

MVPS Hosts file <= The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well know ad sites etc.
Basically, this prevents your coputer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer

Read some information here how to prevent Malware.

This is a good time to clear your existing system restore points and establish a new clean restore point:

  • Go to Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore
  • Select Create a restore point, and Ok it.
  • Next, go to Start > Run and type in cleanmgr
  • Make sure the C Drive is selected and press ok
  • Select the More options tab
  • Choose the option to clean up system restore and OK it.

This will remove all restore points except the new one you just created.

Please post back letting me the clean up went ok.
