Search engine results pages being hijacked on all computers

Unread postby lostindfw » June 18th, 2010, 2:34 pm

I'm having my pages hijacked in IE. It only seems to happen when I click on a link from a search results page. It happens whether I'm doing a search in Yahoo or Google. I have 5 computers on a home network and it is happening to all of them. The results that I'm pasting here are from my desktop computer which is the first one that I'm trying to repair.

Re: Search engine results pages being hijacked on all comput

Unread postby askey127 » June 21st, 2010, 10:22 am

If the machines on the network are involved in a business, tell me.
Because of the choices made regarding the presence of P2P programs and the lack of Antivirus programs, you have a difficult situation with your collection of computers.

PLEASE READ THIS PART CAREFULLY:
With all the computers on your network infected, YOU NEED TO DISCONNECT ALL BUT THIS ONE.
You will need to disinfect each computer separately, while no others are present on the network.
Each machine being disinfected will need to be the only one on your network.
If an error is made, and an infected computer is connected to the network at the same time as clean ones, they will infect the clean ones and you would need to start over.
If this were to happen, I might not be able help further.
If the other machines have any file sharing programs on them, Uninstall all those programs NOW. (Limewire, Azureus , etc.)
If the other machines have no antivirus either, install Antivir (See "Download a free Antivirus Program" below, and update each one.
After installing Antivir and Updating, disconnect each machine except this one from the network.
Run a full scan with Antivir on each machine after it's disconnected, and allow Antivir to fix anything it finds
Do not reconnect any of the machines to the network, even for a few minutes.
If you are not willing or able to do this for the duration of the effort, please tell me now, so we are not wasting both our times.

-----------------------------------------------
Please Note Our Policy on the Use of P2P (Person to Person / Peer to Peer) file sharing programs
It is posted here: http://malwareremoval.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=33112
As a condition of receiving our help, I have included the P2P programs Azureus and Limewire in the removal instructions below, so we are not wasting our time.
If you have used this, you can be fairly confident this is a principal reason your computer is infected

It's really important, if you value your PC at all, to stay away from P2P file sharing programs, like utorrent, Bittorrent, Azureus, Limewire, Vuze.
Criminals have "planted" thousands upon thousands of infections in the "free" shared files. Some of the recent infections can turn your machine into a doorstop.
It's also very important to avoid any "cracks" or "Keygens" that allow unauthorized use of programs. Besides being illegal, these files also are loaded with "planted" malware.
------------------------------------------------
Remove Programs Using Control Panel
From Start, Control Panel, click on Uninstall a program under the Programs heading.
Right click each Entry, as follows, one by one, if it exists, choose Uninstall/Change, and give permission to Continue:
Azureus
Limewire

Take extra care in answering questions posed by any Uninstaller. Some questions may be worded to deceive you into Keeping the program.

You also have the misfortune of having no Antivirus installed on your machine
-----------------------------------------------------------
Download a free AntiVirus Program
Consider this an Emergency until you complete it!

Download, Update, Scan with Antivir Free
[*]Download AntiVir Free from here : http://www.softpedia.com/get/Antivirus/AntiVir-Personal-Edition.shtml
Save the Installer to your desktop.
-----------------------------------------------
Double Click the Avira Antivir Installer on your desktop, Install the program, Have it update itself, and run a full scan.
-----------------------------------------------
Get Last Avira Report
Right click the red umbrella icon in the system tray and click Start Antivir
In the left pane, click Overview, then click Reports
There wil be reports titled Update and reports titled Scan. Find the most recent report in the list titled Scan
Click on the Report File button, or Right click the report and choose Display Report.
The report contents will come up in Notepad. Highlight the entire report (Ctrl+A) and copy to the clipboard (Ctrl+C).
Paste the contents (Ctrl+V) into your next reply.

Tell me the situation regarding the other machines, what you have decided, and how it goes.

Due to a lack of response, this topic is now closed.

If you still require help, please open a new thread in the Infected? Virus, malware, adware, ransomware, oh my! forum, include a fresh FRST log, and wait for a new helper.
