Rogue.Antivirus Suite - cant fully remove it

Unread postby joden » April 14th, 2010, 6:59 pm

installed and ran Malwarebytes Anti-Malware software, ran scan which identified and removed Rogue.Antivirus suite malware, but after reboot of notebook I continue to get a popup window titled "Get Updates" and "Antivirus Suite needs to download virus definitions, so I know part of the infection still exists.

Re: Rogue.Antivirus Suite - cant fully remove it

Unread postby Cypher » April 18th, 2010, 11:40 am

Hi and welcome to Malware removal forums, Sorry for the delay in answering your request for help.
We have had more logs than we could handle in a timely manner.
My name is Cypher, and I will be helping you with your malware problems.

Please be aware that removing Malware is a potentially hazardous undertaking. I will take care not to knowingly suggest courses of action that might damage your computer. However it is impossible for me to foresee all interactions that may happen between the software on your computer and those we'll use to clear you of infection, and I cannot guarantee the safety of your system. It is possible that we might encounter situations where the only recourse is to re-format and re-install your operating system, or to necessitate you taking your computer to a repair shop.

Because of this, I advise you to backup any personal files and folders before you start.
Read Back up your files

please note the following important guidelines.
  • The instructions being given are for YOUR computer and system only!.
Using these instructions on a different computer, can damage that computer and possibly make it inoperable!
  • If you don't know or understand something, please don't hesitate to ask.
  • Only post your problem at One help site. Applying fixes from multiple help sites can cause problems.
  • Only reply to this thread do not start another, Please continue responding until I give you the "All Clean"
Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear.
  • Please DO NOT run any other tools or scans whilst I am helping you.
  • Please DO NOT install any other software (or hardware) during the cleaning process. This adds more items to be researched.
  • Print each set of instructions... if possible...your Internet connection might not be available during some fix processes.
  • Your security programs may give warnings for some of the tools I will ask you to use. Be assured, any links I give are safe.
  • The logs from the tools we use can take some time to research so please be patient.

  • If you haven't done so already, please read this topic ALL USERS OF THIS FORUM MUST READ THIS FIRST where the conditions for receiving help here are explained.

in response to " Question.. is this PC used for Business or is it for personal use ?"

Answer: this notebook is owned by a friend of my boss (e.g. its not my computer), so I'm not sure if its used for business or personal use...I did notice it is running Vista Business edition, so it will be the first question I ask the user today (I am waiting a callback), and will post the answer as soon as I get it.

Hi joden.
I just talked to the user...it is primarily used for personal purposes.

Business computer

I have examined your log & I believe this to be a computer used for business, be it personal or corporate.

If I could point you in the direction of the rules, which state under Posting for help for business machines
Computers used in a business environment often have policies and other modifications made to them. It is impossible for us to differentiate these from ones that have been made by an infection, so in removing what we think is an infection, we may compromise the business set up of your computer.

The scans we run often reveal information that most businesses would not want exposed in an open forum, and there are other legal constraints and ramifications involved with business machines that we are not equipped or trained to deal with.

If this is indeed a business computer:

  • If it is a corporate computer, it is suggested that you take this issue to your IT department.
  • If this is a personal computer used for business (personal or corporate), it is suggested that you take this issue to your IT department, or your local PC repair store.

Thank you for your understanding.

As you appear to be posting for help for a "Business" computer, This topic is now closed

May I draw your attention to THIS topic, which should be read before posting for help.

The section Posting for help for business machines explains why we do not offer help for such computers.
