Hello and welcome to the forum.
My name is Airscape and I'll be helping you with your malware issues.
HijackThis logs can take time to analyze. Please be patient with me.

Take note of following before we begin:
  • Post to this thread only and please stick to it until you are given an All Clean. Absence of symptoms does not mean that your computer is clean.
  • The instructions I give are for This computer only and should not be used on any other pc.
  • Do NOT run any tools/scans unless I instruct you to.
  • Try not to install/uninstall any programs while we work. This will add extra time researching your logs.
  • If you have found assistance elsewhere and no longer require our help, please say so, and this topic will be closed.
  • If you have any problems, please stop and ask before proceeding with any fixes.

Note: As I'm in training at MRU everything I post must be checked by an expert first. So there may be a slight delay in between posts.

No reply within 3 days will result in your topic being closed. If you need more time, please let me know.

Hi,

Is it possible to enter Normal Mode?

Also, you mention security popups. What exactly do the popups say? are they related to anti-spyware/security?

Please try and do the following, if you can't get into Normal Mode, post back for further instructions.

--------------------------

Restart the pc into Normal Mode:

Download/Run Rkill
Please download Rkill from Here, Here,Here, or Here and save to the desktop.
  • Double click on Rkill.
  • A command window will open then disappear upon completion, this is normal.
  • A log will be produced at C:\rkill.txt. Please post it in your next reply.
  • Please leave Rkill on the Desktop until otherwise advised.

Note: If your security software warns about Rkill, please ignore and allow the download to continue.

--------------------------

Download/Run RSIT
  • Please download RSIT by random/random from here and save it to your desktop.
  • Double-click on RSIT.exe to run RSIT.
  • Click Continue at the disclaimer screen.
  • Once it has finished, two logs will open.
  • Please post the contents of both log.txt (<<will be maximized) and info.txt (<<will be minimized)

------------------------

Download GMER Rootkit Scanner from here and save to your desktop.
  • Disconnect from the internet and temporarilly disable the computer's security programs. See Here for a full list.
  • Double click the .exe file. If asked to allow gmer.sys driver to load, please consent
  • If it gives you a warning about rootkit activity and asks if you want to run scan...click on NO

    Image
Click the image to enlarge it
  • In the right panel, you will see several boxes that have been checked. UNCHECK the following:
    • Sections
    • IAT/EAT
    • Drives/Partition other than Systemdrive (typically C:\)
    • Show All (don't miss this one)
  • Then click the Scan button & wait for it to finish
  • Once done click on the [Save..] button, and in the File name area, type in "Gmer.txt" or it will save as a .log file
  • Save it where you can easily find it, such as your desktop, and post it in reply
  • Connect back up to the internet and reenable any security programs you disabled.
**Caution**
Rootkit scans often produce false positives. Do NOT take any action on any "<--- ROOKIT" entries

Note: Do not run any programs while Gmer is running.

-----------------------

Please post back with the following from Normal Mode:
Some logs may require more than one post, that's OK.
C:\rkill.txt
RSIT logs (log.txt and info.txt)
Gmer log
How is the pc running?

Hi. I have rebooted in Normal mode and followed your instructions. I am not currently seeing the security warning popups, which is strange... before they would pop up incessantly, one after the other with message like "your system may have been compromised, click here to fix"... Logs below:

This log file is located at C:\rkill.log.
Please post this only if requested to by the person helping you.
Otherwise you can close this log when you wish.

Hi, camcrow.

I'd like you to check (a file/some files) for Viruses.
C:\WINDOWS\efibabuyu.dll
C:\Documents and Settings\Chandler Crow\Local Settings\Application Data\ucdutiaow\hmlswfgtssd.exe

  • Copy/Paste the first file on the list into the white Upload a file box.
  • Click Send/Submit, and the file will upload to VirusTotal/Jotti, where it will be scanned by several anti-virus programmes.
  • After a while, a window will open, with details of what the scans found.
  • Note details of any viruses found.
  • Repeat for all files on the list, and post me the details please

Yes it looks like they are related to the security popups you had.

Backup the Registry:

Modifying the Registry can create unforeseen problems, so it always wise to create a backup before doing so.

  • Please go here and download ERUNT.
  • ERUNT (Emergency Recovery Utility NT) is a free program that allows you to keep a complete backup of your registry and restore it when needed.
  • Double click on erunt-setup.exe to Install ERUNT by following the prompts.
  • Use the default install settings but say no to the portion that asks you to add ERUNT to the Start-Up folder. You can enable this option later if you wish.
  • Start ERUNT either by double clicking on the desktop icon or choosing to start the program at the end of the setup process.
  • Choose a location for the backup. Note: the default location is C:\WINDOWS\ERDNT which is acceptable.
  • Make sure that at least the first two check boxes are selected.
  • Click on OK
  • Then click on YES to create the folder.

Note: If it is necessary to restore the registry, open the backup folder and start ERDNT.exe

----------------------------------

Download/Run OTM
Download OTM by OldTimer from Here and save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on OTM.exe to run it
  • Copy/Paste the text inside the Code box below into Paste Instructions for Items to be Moved
Note: Do not type it out to minimize the risk of typo error

Code: Select all
:processes

:files
C:\WINDOWS\efibabuyu.dll
C:\Documents and Settings\Chandler Crow\Local Settings\Application Data\ucdutiaow

:registry
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
"Eloforeqonofa"=-
"saodgipx"=-
""=-

:commands
[emptytemp]
[start explorer]
[Reboot]

  • Click on the MoveIt! button
  • When the tool is finished, click on Exit
Note: If a file or folder can't be moved immediately, you may be asked to restart your computer. Choose Yes.
A log will be produced at C:\_OTM\MovedFiles\date_time.log where date_time are numbers.
Post this log in your next reply.

-------------------------------------

I see you have Malwarebytes installed:

Run Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and click the Update tab >>> then Check for Updates.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Back at the Scanner tab, select Perform Quick Scan, then click Scan.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Make sure that everything is checked , and click Remove Selected.
  • When completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to restart to finish cleaning.... see Extra Note below.
  • The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.

Extra Note:
If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts.
Click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process. If asked to restart your computer, please do so immediately.
Failure to reboot will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware.

-------------------------------

Looking over your log, it seems you don't have any evidence of an anti-virus software.
Anti-virus software are programs that detect, cleanse, and erase harmful virus files on a computer, Web server, or network. Unchecked, virus files can unintentionally be forwarded to others, including trading partners and thereby spreading infection. Because new viruses regularly emerge, anti-virus software should be updated frequently. Anti-virus software can scan the computer memory and disk drives for malicious code. They can alert the user if a virus is present, and will clean, delete (or quarantine) infected files or directories.
Please download and install a free anti-virus software from one these excellent vendors:

1) Avira Antivir Personal - Free anti-virus software for Windows. Free support.
2) avast! Home Edition - Anti-virus program for Windows. The home edition is freeware for noncommercial users.

You should run only one antivirus program at a time. Having more than one antivirus program active in memory uses additional resources and results in program conflicts and false virus alerts.

Once installed have the program update itself, run a full scan, and fix anything found.

--------------------------

Security Application Check
  • Please download SecurityCheck.exe from Here or Here and save it to your Desktop.
  • Double click SecurityCheck.exe and follow the onscreen instructions inside of the black box.
  • A Notepad document should open automatically called checkup.txt
  • Please post the contents of that document in your next reply.

-------------------------

Logs/Information to post in next reply:
  • OTM log
  • MBAM log
  • checkup.txt
  • How is the pc running now?

Oh wait, the one thing is that it is throwing this error on restart:

Error loading:C\WINDOWS\efibabuyu.dll ... file not found...

OK, obviously because we deleted it. Do I need to replace it?

PC is running well, no return of security popups. However, no matter what I do I can't seem to successfully run the Avira Antivirus update process. I even tried downloading a fresh version of the install exe and running it. The scan runs fine but I can't get the latest virus DB so maybe that's why Kapersky is still coming up with some infection? See logs below:

However, no matter what I do I can't seem to successfully run the Avira Antivirus update process.

Have you had any previous security software installed?

If it keeps happening try Avast, it's also an excellent free antivirus:

http://download.cnet.com/Avast-Free-Ant ... 19223.html

I'd also recommend getting SpywareBlaster along side your antivirus which will prevent Malware installing on your pc:

http://www.majorgeeks.com/downloadget.p ... f4682b4cef

---------------------------------

Uninstall programs
Click Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs
Find and click Remove for the following:

Adobe Reader 6.0.1
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 10
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 9
WildTangent Web Driver

Note: Take extra care in answering questions posed by any Uninstaller. Some questions may be worded to deceive you into keeping the program.

---------------------

Install the latest Adobe Reader
There have recently been vulnerabilities detected in older versions of Adobe Reader. It is strongly recommended that you update to the latest version.
  • Download the latest Adobe Reader from Here
  • Click Download and save the file to a convenient location.
  • Run AdbeRdr930_en_US.exe and follow the prompts to install adobe.
If you already have Adobe Photoshop installed, or do not wish to install it, then UNcheck the Also download Adobe Photoshop option.

If you don't like Adobe Reader, then I would recommend to get Foxit PDF Reader
It is a much smaller file to download and uses a lot less resources than Adobe Reader.
When installing Foxit Reader be careful not to install anything to do with the AskBar

-----------------

Install the latest Java
  • Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system.
  • Click Here to download the latest version of Java.
  • Click Windows 7/XP/Vista/2003/2008 offline
  • Save jre-6u20-windows-i586-S.exe to a convenient location.
  • Run this file and follow the on screen instructions to install java.

-----------------

Run OTM
  • Double click on OTM.exe to run it
  • Copy/Paste the text inside the Code box below into Paste Instructions for Items to be Moved
Note: Do not type it out to minimize the risk of typo error

Code: Select all
:processes
:files
C:\Documents and Settings\Chandler Crow\Local Settings\Application Data\2991590366.dll
:commands

Please post this log in your next reply along with a new HijackThis log.
