XP Defender has corrupted computer. HELP!

Unread postby ej1948 » April 10th, 2010, 9:30 pm

Earlier today I asked for assistance before moving forward. My daughter's computer will not access the internet, load in safe mode or load in safe mode with networking. It's interesting that my post was closed with a comment to "download "hijack this and post a log". Wasn't quite sure how to do that since her computer won't access the internet as I had noted, thus no log in the first place. However, I figured it out and here's the log, following the issues I described in my previous post:

1. Computer won't load in safe mode or safe with networking mode. Attempts cause it to run thru a registry list or files list in ms dos extremely fast and return to the initial F8 screen. It will load in debugging and normal modes.
2. XP Defender and various other names it uses kept popping up, increasing in frequency. Ran MalwareBytes and computer appeared clean but XP Defender showed up again a few hours later, initially under the name XP Security 2010. Tried to run MalwareBytes again but it wouldn't load. Removed it from computer, re-downloaded it and finally got it to run. Identified more viruses, which I deleted.
3. Upon running regsvr32 it noted the shdocvw.dll file is missing.
4. The mshtml.dll file loaded but it said the dll register service entry point not found.
5. An error message of 0x8002801c
6. Will not connect to the internet
6. The LAN network status shows it connected and troubleshooting found no errors
7. I can ping the modem. Modem troubleshooting does not detect any errors.
8. Before access to the internet stopped, received several messages about computer and/or software shutting down or not available. Cannot list those messages now because I cannot access the internet.

I read your instructions and will follow them exactly. However, I'm not sure what you want me to do. You explained how to uninstall programs but didn't say which programs I should uninstall. The hijack log is the same as the original posting and the problems are the same.

Please let me know my next step and I will respond. Thanks!

I'm not sure what you want me to do. You explained how to uninstall programs but didn't say which programs I should uninstall.

I do not want you to uninstall any programs at this stage I just want to see what we call an uninstall list, so follow the directions and post one on your next reply.

Open Hijack This and select Do a System Scan Only place a check next to the below lines if still present

    O4 - HKUS\S-1-5-18\..\Run: [utpbfaxw] C:\WINDOWS\system32\config\systemprofile\Local Settings\Application Data\wxofei\yiigsysguard.exe (User 'SYSTEM')
    O4 - HKUS\S-1-5-18\..\Run: [ygua8e7yhuiesfha876yfauy8fe] C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\f80dkxez3.exe (User 'SYSTEM')
    O4 - HKUS\S-1-5-18\..\Run: [asg984jgkfmgasi8ug98jgkfgfb] C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\lsass.exe (User 'SYSTEM')
    O4 - HKUS\S-1-5-18\..\Run: [rddwxwcn] C:\WINDOWS\system32\config\systemprofile\Local Settings\Application Data\oiygri\oiahsysguard.exe (User 'SYSTEM')
    O4 - HKUS\.DEFAULT\..\Run: [utpbfaxw] C:\WINDOWS\system32\config\systemprofile\Local Settings\Application Data\wxofei\yiigsysguard.exe (User 'Default user')
    O20 - AppInit_DLLs: C:\WINDOWS\system32\kbdsock.dll,pasagami.dll c:\windows\system32\wulemake.dll
    O21 - SSODL: fipuzomub - {a882ea35-4c77-4c3e-adab-ae0f5577d636} - (no file)
    O22 - SharedTaskScheduler: gahurihor - {a882ea35-4c77-4c3e-adab-ae0f5577d636} - (no file)

Once selected close all windows except HJT an click on Fix Checked and Reboot computer.

Download and run LSP-Fix
Download LSP-Fix and save it into its own directory. (you can download on a working computer and transfer via usb or disk to the infected computer)
Run the LSP-Fix program. A box will open. Click on the finish button at the bottom right . LSP-Fix will automatically fix the LSP chain and hopefully restore connectivity back to your computer Reboot and you should be able to get back on.

NOTE Do only as instructed DO NOT remove any files.

Next re run Malwarebytes , fix what it finds and post the log it creates.

    Please reply with:-
    • Uninstall List
    • New HJT log
    • MBAM log
    • Update, can you now access the internet

Thanks much. I understand the instructions now.

I live about 15 miles from my daughter so it will be tomorrow afternoon before I can follow your instructions. I will repost with the information you've requested.

Hi: My daughter followed your instructions but there's still computer problems:

1. Still cannot access the internet. Attempts to load but freezes the entire computer
3. MBAM initially says it is running but it is not. It eventually loaded so we are doing a complete scan now.
4. LSP-fix says there are no errors.
5. Hijack this will not load.

Once we do a complete MBAM scan we will select fix, then copy the log. I will also re-do your instructions from the beginning and re-post the results, including any logs that I'm able to access.

Hi: My daughter followed your instructions but there's still computer problems

There will be at this stage we have a few steps to do.

Still cannot access the internet. Attempts to load but freezes the entire computer

Is the actually internet having the problem or is it the computer playing up so you can’t access sites etc?

MBAM initially says it is running but it is not. It eventually loaded so we are doing a complete scan now.

Good please post the log when done.

I followed your instructions. Still cannot get on the internet. It attempts to load but I get an error message that says internet explorer cannot display the webpage. It will not allow me to diagnose connection problems. I also ran LSP-fix but it did not identify any errors.

Re: XP Defender has corrupted computer. HELP!

Unread postby muppy03 » April 20th, 2010, 5:08 pm

You should see a difference after doing the following.

Download and run Combofix
This tool is not a toy and not for everyday use.
ComboFix SHOULD NOT be used unless requested by a forum helper

Please download ComboFix from one of these locations:

Link 1
Link 2

* IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop

  • Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools.
  • If you need help to disable your protection programs see here.
  • Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.
  • As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.
  • Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.
**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

Image
Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

Image
Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.

When finished, it will produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply along with a fresh HijackThis log.

If you need help, see this link:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix

Please reply with:-
  • Combofix log
  • New HJT log

I will go to my daughter's house tomorrow and follow your instructions. However, I notice that an active internet connection must be available if the recovery console has to be installed. How will I handle this since the connection isn't working?

Is anything loading at all internet wise?

Leave combofix for the time being and do the following.

b]Download/run Rkill:[/b]

Please download Rkill from one of the following links and save to your Desktop:

One, Two,Three or Four

  • Double click on Rkill.
  • A command window will open then disappear upon completion, this is normal.
  • Please leave Rkill on the Desktop until otherwise advised.

Note: If your security software warns about Rkill, please ignore and allow the download to continue.

NEXT Download and Run: RSIT

  • Download random's system information tool (RSIT) by random/random from here and save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on RSIT.exe to run RSIT.
  • Click Continue at the disclaimer screen.
  • Once it has finished, two logs will open. Please post the contents of both log.txt (<<will be maximized) and info.txt (<<will be minimized)

Please reply with:-
  • RSIT logs ( info.txt and log.txt)
  • Update on internet connection status

Re: XP Defender has corrupted computer. HELP!

Unread postby muppy03 » April 24th, 2010, 4:54 am

I would like you to reset your router. Do this by turning it off and unplugging from wall socket. While it is unplugged do the following:-

Go to start -> control panel->Network and Internet Connections, then select Network Connections. Then right click on your default connection, usually local area connection,(check is is not disabled, if it is enable it) and left click on properties. Click the Networking tab. Double-click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) item and select the radio dial that says Obtain DNS servers automatically if it is not already selected.
Press OK twice to get out of the properties screen and Reboot if asked.

Next Go start run type cmd and hit OK
type ipconfig /flushdns (that space between g and / is needed) then hit enter, type exit hit enter.

Open Hijack This and select Do a System Scan Only place a check next to the below lines if still present

    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,AutoConfigURL = about:blank

Once selected close all windows except HJT an click on Fix Checked and Reboot the computer.

Let me know if you can access the internet (if you can run combofix as instructed earlier)or if not let me know exactly what is happening.
