Hi briolette,

ESET took approximately 8 hrs to complete yesterday

OK, if it fails to create a log just let me know a summary of the results.

LOL deltalima, disabling my virusware saved me...ohhhh...about 7 hrs today. Needless to say, I feel foolish. Once again, ESET failed to produced a log, and I just recalled experiencing this issue once before when malwareremoval.com helped me with my desktop, so the tech asked me to run Kaspersky's. I am at your disposal, if you think it'll be helpful.

Here is what ESET posted:

No threats found. Scanned Files: 115068
Infected Files: 0
Cleaned Files: 0
Total Scan Time: 02:14:27
Scan Status: Finished

Kaspersky is a very thorough scanner and it would be good to check with it so please do.

The link I use is http://www.kaspersky.com/kos/eng/partne ... bscan.html

As we have found no signs of a malware infection so far, I suggest that you run the general performance scan at

http://www.pcpitstop.com/betapit/pitstop.asp

click Don't Create An Account

then click Let's Go then OK when prompted

When the results appear copy the URL from the address bar and post it here.

The pcpitstop is quite quick so run that first.

deltalima, Kaspersky's just finished updating program files and my status reads, Null. Is this significant, or should I just overlook it?

I would close Internet Explorer and run the scan again, the update should be much quicker this time as the database will be already downloaded.

deltalima, I've tried several times, however, it's continuing to read "null" after checking file updates. Nonetheless, the program seems to run, although I don't know how effective it is in null status. It also asks that I go to their main webpage and look for a current link, but there isn't one - they claim to be updating the software.

Hi briolette,

The main Kaspersky site has been like that for a while now but the link I sent has usually worked while the main site has been being updated.

The other alternative would be to create a Kaspersky bootdisk if you have a blank CD and a CD writer.

Please follow the instructions at http://www.techmixer.com/kaspersky-resc ... using-dos/

Please let me know the results of the scan.

Hi deltalima...just wanted to provide you with an update to let you I'm still in this. I have run ESET a couple more times to see if a log would evince, but no luck. Presently, I'm working on the last instructions that you provided for a Kaspersky boot disk. I'm a bit outta my league here, so bear with me, please.

Update: I think that I've created the bootable CD, but I can't figure out how to boot the computer using it. Currently stuck.

It's F12 on many computers, I am also using a Toshiba and it's F12 as soon as the boot splash screen appears.

Thank you, for your indulgence, deltalima. Still working at this, even though I'm not as savvy as I'd like to be.

Hello, deltalima. I finally burned a proper CD, but Kaspersky's Rescue Disk turned out to be a bust, as well. Once loaded, it declares that its databases are obsolete (5/2009) and that an appropriate update source cannot be found. I have tried several times.
