computer will not accept:

"%userprofile%\desktop\fsbl.exe" /expert

error message is in french so i have a bit of a problem translating it for you, but it says the drive is not existant or compatible or some such thing.

So I cannot go any further. Backlight is downloaded and waiting.

Start fsbl.exe on your desktop (it's a blue triangle) by double-clicking it. Give any necessary permissions and agree to the license. Then follow the rest of the original instruction after the "Accept the license agreement." line.

I ran backlight, it found nothing but did not post a log on my desktop. The Microsoft scan came up clean as well.
As for online armour, if i try to do anything it tells me that my registration key has expired and i have to buy.
I did not install this programme, it must have come with the computer and at the moment i am not in a position to buy it.
Finally, there was no look.txt log on my desktop either. FindMe.bat, flashed up briefly when I double clicked on it, but no log afterwards.

All in all, rather disappointing! My apologies if I did something wrong.

Looks quite good, actually.
We can doublecheck your connection routing:
Go to Start, Run and type the command word cmd into the box. Hit <Enter>
A window will pop up. (Don't try to move the cursor in the window.)
Type the following (there is a space on either side of the double arrow in this line):
ipconfig >> c:\ip.txt
Hit <Enter>
Next, type exit, and hit the Enter key again.
The window will disappear.

Now go to Start, My Computer and double-click on C:\ drive.
Click View , Details in the top menu.
Find a file in the list named ip.txt
Double click it and you should see Notepad popup with a few lines of information in it.
Please Copy the contents and paste back in a reply here.

did everything you said but no ip.txt in the c drive, have tried copying over the contents of the c drive but computer doesn't seen to want to cooperate. Did a search for the file and that came up empty as well.
How are we doing?

We can doublecheck your connection routing this way:

ipconfig
Hit <Enter>

There will be about four entries, each one having first a name, then on the same line, a "value"
Next, look at the names of the four entries and the funny numbers or the website for each value and write down the names and values for each one.
The please transcribe your notes into a reply here

(Type exit to make the window disappear).
The notes will look something like this:

Windows IP Configuration
Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:

Connection Specific DNS Suffix .: hsd1.zz.xxxxxx.com
IP Address ..............: 123.456.1.1
Subnet Mask .............: 255.255.255.1
Default Gateway..........: 123.456.1.2

I am particularly interested in the values after the colon character (:) on each line.
If there are any additional lines, please include them.

By the way, Sarah, the trouble we are having has mostly to do with the different command and variable names in the French version of WinXP and my own limited knowledge.
You may need to visit a site like http://zebulon.fr to get a final check. You can give them a copy of the address of this thread (the bar starting with "http:// at the top of the screen) if that proves necessary.

Sarah,
That is a good result.

You should remove the following items, if you see them, on your desktop screen:
GMER
RSIT
fsbl
ToolbarSD
Just right click each one and choose Delete.

I believe your computer is free of malware.

You can ask at the Zebulon site if there is anything else that needs to be checked before you request restoration of your e-mail rights. I would give them a copy of the link (the http address at the top of your screen now) to this thread.

Sorry this has been a bit frustrating, but my knowledge of the French version of Windows XP is not very good.
