Last night, I was changing my anti virus program. I removed McAfee and installed Norton Security Suite. I'm using the program from Comast. They discontinued McAfee and now offer Norton free.
I'm working on a Dell M1530 with Vista 64x.
I visited a few - what I thought were trusted sites.
Suddenly I get this fake looking icon in the taskbar and a pop up that says Vista Guardian with of course, a report of a ton of viruses that I said I had to buy the program to remove all these viruses.
I remembered something similar from the past.
I tried to remove it. I suddenly could not open any programs. Every time I tried, I got a box that opened up and gives a list of programs to choose to open a program.
I tried to use System Recovery but it wouldn't work.
I went into safe mode and used system recovery and was able to use the laptop although it is still not acting right this morning. Here are the hijack and malware logs from last night.
