Problem with links redirecting me somewhere else.

I am using Firefox 3.5.7 and once in awhile, when I click a specifc link (page) that I have visited numerous times, it directs me to another page not pertaining to the page. There are times it would direct me to some weird page and a pop-up would come stating "I am infected with a virus...blah blah blah click ok". I know better than that and would immediately terminate firefox through Windows Task Manager. This doesn't happen all the time. I have done a full system scan with ad aware and with my anti virus software, but would come up empty handed.
