McAfee & Malwarebytes not detecting malware affecting google

Unread postby sampoet » January 19th, 2010, 4:43 pm

I have malware that I can't remove. I noted that I had it when both IE and Firefox Google searches would provide results whose links took me to ad websites. I used Malwarebyte's Anti-Malware and it did not detect anything. I then did a full McAfee scan and it detected 18 Trojans, all with the word "artemis" in them. I deleted them and re-booted. The computer froze on re-boot so I re-booted again. The google searches still provide links that go to ad pages. (They do this on the first click - by clicking the back button and clicking the result again it does go to the right site.)

So, I ran Malwarebyte's again and it found nothing. I ran a full McAfee scan and this time it found nothing. But I still have the problem with Google results.

I tried to attach the Hijackthis list and the uninstall list but cannot tell if they actually attached.

Please help if you can. Thank you.

[UPDATE: I have now used Spybot Search and Destroy, Reimage and Hijackthis.de and now, according to all of them, there is no malware on my computer. But I am still having the same problem with searches (google, bing, yahoo) going to the wrong pages on both IE and Firefox. Help....]
