Please note that all instructions given are customised for this computer only, the tools used may cause damage if used on a computer with different infections.

If you think you have similar problems, please post a log in the HJT forum and wait for help.

Please take time to read the Malware Removal Forum Guidelines and Rules where the conditions for receiving help at this forum are explained.
Hi abhorton and welcome back to Malware Removal. :)

I'm Dakeyras and I am going to try to assist you with your problem. Please take note of the below:

  • I will start working on your Malware issues, this may or may not, solve other issues you have with your machine.
  • The fixes are specific to your problem and should only be used for this issue on this machine!.
  • The process is not instant. Please continue to review my answers until I tell you your machine is clear. Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear.
  • If you don't know, stop and ask! Don't keep going on.
  • Please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.
  • Refrain from running self fixes as this will hinder the malware removal process.
  • It may prove beneficial if you print of the following instructions or save them to notepad as I post them.
  • Your security programs may give warnings for some of the tools I will ask you to use. Be assured, any links I give are safe.

Vista Advice:

All applications I ask to be used will require to be run in Administrator mode. IE: Right click on and select Run as Administrator.

The Operating System(Vista aka Windows 6) in use comes with a inbuilt utility called User Access Control(UAC) when prompted by this with anything I ask you to do carry out please select the option Allow.

Your machine is also missing a vital Service Pack, do not be alarmed OK, this is more for your information and we will address this when I give the all clear. Do not install it until I ask you to.

TFC(Temp File Cleaner):

Note: TFC will run automatically in elevated admin mode so no need to right click upon the executable.

  • Please download TFC to your desktop,
  • Save any unsaved work. TFC will close all open application windows.
  • Double-click TFC.exe to run the program.
  • Click the Start button in the bottom left of TFC
  • If prompted, click "Yes" to reboot.

Note: Save your work. TFC will automatically close any open programs, let it run uninterrupted. It should not take longer than a couple of minutes , and may only take a few seconds. Only if needed will you be prompted to reboot.

Next:

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop.

  • Right-click mbam-setup.exe and select Run as Administrator then follow the prompts to install the program.
  • At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please post that log in your next reply.

The log can also be found here:
  1. Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  2. Click on the Logs radio tab.

Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts, click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process, if asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware.

Next:

  • Please download Random's System Information Tool by random/random from here and save it to your desktop.
Please make sure that RSIT.exe is on the your Desktop before running the application!
  • Right-click on RSIT.exe and select Run as Administrator to start RSIT.
  • Click Continue at the disclaimer screen.
  • Once it has finished, two logs will open:
    • log.txt will be opened maximized.
    • info.txt will be opened minimized.
  • Please post the contents of both log.txt and info.txt.

When completed the above, please post back the following:

  • Inform myself how your computer is running. Any problems encountered and or further symptoms?
  • Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Log.
  • Both RSIT Logs. <-- Post them individually please. IE: one Log per post/reply.

My computer seems to be running okay right now, but we'll see if it keeps this up. I haven't encountered any problems throughout this process.
Thanks for all of the help.

Re: Slow Computer HELP please! be gentle i'm new

Unread postby Dakeyras » January 4th, 2010, 10:06 am

Hi. :)

My computer seems to be running okay right now, but we'll see if it keeps this up. I haven't encountered any problems throughout this process.
Thanks for all of the help.
OK, thanks for the update and you are welcome!

Viewpoint Software Advice:

This is just to make you aware of the nature of the aforementioned applications. Though not exactly classed as malware they do have some undersirible characteristics. However there is not point uninstalling any of them, as the AIM Toolbar 5.0 application you have installed, next time used will download/install the aforementioned again with out your knowledge. Isn't that nice of AOL and their applications :banghead:

Next:

Right-click on HiJackThis.exe and select Run as Administrator. Then select Do a system scan only. Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below (if present):

O2 - BHO: Google Toolbar Notifier BHO - {AF69DE43-7D58-4638-B6FA-CE66B5AD205D} - C:\Program Files\Google\GoogleToolbarNotifier\5.4.4525.1752\swg.dll
O2 - BHO: Browser Address Error Redirector - {CA6319C0-31B7-401E-A518-A07C3DB8F777} - c:\windows\system32\BAE.dll
O15 - Trusted Zone: *.netzero.com
O15 - Trusted Zone: *.netzero.net
O18 - Protocol: bwfile-8876480 - {9462A756-7B47-47BC-8C80-C34B9B80B32B} - C:\Program Files\Logitech\Desktop Messenger\8876480\Program\GAPlugProtocol-8876480.dll (file missing)

Now click on Fix Checked. Close HiJackThis.

Reset Host File:

  • Open Notepad.
  • Copy and Paste everything from the Code Box below into Notepad: <-- Start >> Run... type in notepad and select OK
Code: Select all
@Echo off
pushd\windows\system32\drivers\etc
attrib -h -s -r hosts
echo 127.0.0.1 localhost>HOSTS
attrib +r +h +s hosts
popd
del %0
  • Go to File >> Save As
  • Save File name as "Dakeyras.bat" <-- Make sure to include the quotes.
  • Change Save as Type to All Files and save the file to your Desktop.
  • It should look similar to this: Image

Now right-click on the desktop Dakeyras.bat and select Run as Administrator to run the batch file. It will self-delete when completed.

Next:

Now Reboot(restart) your computer.

Hard-Drive Free Space Advice:

System drive C: has 3 GB (5%) free of 65 GB
This is considered dangerously low. A Hard-Drive requires a bare minimum of 15% available free space to be able to function correctly, but at least 25% is better in my opinion.

I advise you read this article: What to do if your Computer's running slowly and choose to uninstall some software you do not need, this is just my advice as the lack of current Hard-Drive space will be impacting on overall system performance. Plus eventually any type of system maintenance will prove to be problematic.

Next:

Using Windows Explorer (to get there right-click your Start button and go to "Explore"), please delete this folder (if present):

C:\rsit

Then empty the Recycle Bin.

Next:

  • Right-click on RSIT.exe and select Run as Administrator to run RSIT.
  • Click Continue at the disclaimer screen.
  • Once it has finished, two logs will open:
    • log.txt will be opened maximized.
    • info.txt will be opened minimized.
  • Please post the contents of both log.txt and info.txt.

When completed the above, please post back the following in the order asked for:

  • How is you computer performing now, any other symptoms and or problems encountered?
  • A new set of RSIT logs. <-- Post them individually please, IE: one Log per post/reply.

My computer is running about the same as before. I haven't notice any major difference. I saw what you said about the amount of free space being too low, so I am in the process of cleaning out my computer. It's going to take a while, because I have a lot of unused programs that I wasn't aware of and I have a lot of pictures that I'm going to have to put on dvds.

I ran RSIT, but only one of the logs came up. I'm not sure why.

Here is the once that came up, the log.txt:

Hi. :)

OK when you have created some more free space please delete the following folder:-

C:\rsit <-- This does need to be deleted otherwise two new RSIT logs will not be created.

Yes, everything is fine. :) I still working on cleaning out my computer. It's going to take another day or so. Once I have done that I will post those two logs. Thanks for all of your help.

Due to lack of response, this topic is now closed.

If you still require help, please open a new thread in the Infected? Virus, malware, adware, ransomware, oh my! forum, include a fresh FRST log, and wait for a new helper.
