Remove Malware from Slave Drive

I have a malware backdoor virus on my Vista Drive, C:. I am considering this option to clear the problem:

1) Remove the infected HD.
2) Connect, Format, and Install a new hard drive with Windows 7.
3) Reconnect the infected HD as a second HD (slave).
4) Use highjack and a virus removal program such as Kapersky running on the Win 7 HD to clean the infected drive.
5) When clean, I will copy program setup files (eg, program-setup.exe) from the slave HD to the Win 7 drive and install them. Following that, I will move the data files (eg, doc, mp3, exl etc).
6) Finally, reformat the infected hard drive.

Firstly, without knowing the nature of the particular backdoor infesting the hard drive, it is impossible to say that any exe file would be safe to move from the infected drive to another drive as some infections are known to be file infectors that can and will attach themselves to any/all exe files and many other file types as well. Generally, documents and pictures are safe.

Secondly, if these executable files are set up files, they were either downloaded software or software that was added via CD/DVD. That being the case, you should either install them from fresh downloads or from your CD/DVD disks. If that is not possible, then the original source of these programs may be questionable.
