Browser redirection issues

Hi I wonder if anyone can help me with this annoying problem on my friends XP Home computer? Searching on google results in getting directed away from the intended target via "search2.google.com". So far I have installed and run SuperAntispyware, Malwarebytes and Ccleaner with 21 threats detected and removed. Spybot-S&D will not run as it displays an "error retrieving update information" message. Manual update also fails as the browsers, both Firefox and Explorer, can't access the download sites. I have done a proxy search with no bad results shown. Firewall and antivirus is disabled.
