Re: Getting you have been infected notice

Unread postby deltalima » December 1st, 2009, 8:19 am

Hi golf1here,

There are 4 realtime Antispyware applications running, we need to remove some of these, they can be reinstalled later if you wish.

  • Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  • In Control Panel, double-click Add or Remove Programs.
  • In Add or Remove Programs,
    highlight Mininova-Vuze Toolbar
    highlight Windows Defender
highlight Spybot - Search & Destroy
    highlight Ad-Aware
    click Remove.
  • Close the Add or Remove Programs and the Control Panel windows.

Please re-open HijackThis and select Scan. Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below (if present):

R3 - URLSearchHook: Mininova-Vuze Toolbar - {d51d388b-f5dc-471a-a1ce-5e2d671091c0} - C:\Program Files\Mininova-Vuze\tbMini.dll
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {2F364306-AA45-47B5-9F9D-39A8B94E7EF7} - (no file)

Now close all other open windows and then click on Fix Checked. Close HijackThis.

Download HostsXpert and unzip it to your computer, somewhere where you can find it.
  • Double click on HostsXpert.exe to launch the program.
  • Click on Restore MS Hosts File to restore your Hosts file to its default condition.
  • Click on Make ReadOnly to secure it against further infection.
  • Exit the program.

Now please reboot your computer.

Download GMER Rootkit Scanner from here.
  • Double click the .exe file. If asked to allow gmer.sys driver to load, please consent
  • If it gives you a warning at program start about rootkit activity and asks if you want to run a scan...click NO.
  • Run Gmer again and click on the Rootkit tab.
  • Look at the right hand side (under Files) and uncheck all drives with the exception of your C drive.
  • Make sure all other boxes on the right of the screen are checked, EXCEPT for "Show All".
  • Click on the "Scan" and wait for the scan to finish.
Note: Before scanning, make sure all other running programs are closed and no other actions like a scheduled antivirus scan will occur while this scan completes. Also do not use your computer during the scan.
  • When completed, click on the Copy button and right-click on your Desktop, choose "New" > Text document. Once the file is created, open it and right-click again and choose Paste or Ctrl+V. Save the file as gmer.txt and copy the information in your next reply.
  • Note: If you have any problems, try running GMER in SAFE MODE"
Important! Please do not select the "Show all" checkbox during the scan..

Please post the GMER log along with a new HijackThis log and an update on how your computer is running.

Hi golf1here,

  • Download OTM and save it to your desktop. Then run it.
  • Copy and paste the lines in the code box below into the input field at the bottom left corner:
    Code: Select all
    :processes
    explorer.exe

    :files
    C:\Windows\System32\DRIVERS\ETC\hosts
  • Now click the red button that says MoveIt!
  • To the right, the results show up. Copy and paste them all into a notepad file and post the notepad file in your next reply.

Now please continue to run HostXpert and if successful GMER as the previous post and post the requested logs.

Hi golf1here,

Using Windows Explorer (to get there right-click your Start button and go to Explore), please navigate to the folder C:\Windows\System32\DRIVERS\ETC

Now highlight the file hosts and right click

Under the properties tab uncheck the Read-only box in the section Attributes then click OK.

Now please continue to run HostXpert and if successful GMER as the previous post and post the requested logs.

Hi golf1here,

RootRepeal - Rootkit Detector (run in normal mode)
  • Download RootRepeal from the following location and save it to your desktop.
  • Unzip it to your Desktop
  • Double click RootRepeal.exe to start the program
  • Click on the Report tab at the bottom of the program window
  • Click the Scan button
  • In the Select Scan dialog, check:
    • Drivers
    • Files
    • Processes
    • SSDT
    • Stealth Objects
    • Hidden Services
    • Shadow SSDT
  • Click the OK button
  • Check the box for your main system drive (Usually C:), and Click OK to start the scan

The scan can take some time. DO NOT run any other programs while the scan is running
  • When the scan is complete, the Save Report button will become available
  • Click this and save the report to your Desktop as RootRepeal.txt
  • Go to File, then Exit to close the program

Download/run Rkill:
Please download Rkill from one of the following links and save to your Desktop:

One, Two,Three or Four

  • Double click on Rkill.
  • A command window will open then disappear upon completion, this is normal.
  • Please leave Rkill on the Desktop until otherwise advised.

Note: If your security software warns about Rkill, please ignore and allow the download to continue.

Malwarebytes Anti-Malware:
Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop.

  • Double-click mbam-setup.exe and select then follow the prompts to install the program.
  • At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please post that log in your next reply.
The log can also be found here:
  1. Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  2. Click on the Logs radio tab.

Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts, click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process, if asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware.

Now please run a new HijackThis scan and post the HijackThis log, The Malwarebytes Antimalware log and the RootRepeal log and an update on how the computer is now running.

Hi golf1here,

TDSSKiller
  • Download the file TDSSKiller.zip and save it on your desktop
  • Extract the file tdskiller.zip, it will create a folder named tdsskiller on your desktop
  • Highlight and copy the text in the codebox below.
    Code: Select all
    "%userprofile%\desktop\tdsskiller\tdsskiller.exe" -l "%userprofile%\desktop\tdsskiller.txt"
  • Click Start, click Run... and paste the text above into the Open: line and click OK.
  • Wait for the scan and disinfection process to be over. If you receive a prompt to delete a service then type delete to do so.
  • Open tdskiller.txt on your desktop and post the contents in your next reply

Also please post a new HijackThis log and an update on how the computer is now running.
