Hello,

I am currently on the infected computer in Safe Mode with Networking. Safe mode is the only mode that I can actually open a browser and get on the internet. When I try to open either IE or Firefox when running regular Windows XP, the browser opens, but the page doesn't load, the browser becomes non-responsive, and closes within about 30 seconds.

When I was still able to get on the internet when running Windows XP (not in safe mode), probably 4 times out of 5 when I clicked on a search result from google or another search engine, I would be redirected to a different website. This happens now when I am in safe mode as well.

I have tried running CA Yahoo! Antispy (this picked up SillyProxy DG and Banload FA, which YAS cannot remove and no other programs seem to notice), Spybot Search and Destroy, SuperAntiSpyware, MalwareBytes, and Avast home edition 4.8 in safe mode. These programs were able to detect and remove several malware, but the problems still persist. If you wish, I've written down the findings of the programs, and I can provide the name of the malware and location where it was detected. I've saved the malwarebytes log if you'd like to see that as well.

Thanks in advance; any help would be very much appreciated.

Problem was solved: took advantage of the fact that we are Comcast clients and downloaded McAffe for free. It was able to remove whatever was wrong with the computer.

Thanks anyway.
