hello.

my daughter was working on my computer doing some school work, looking up a website for phases of the moon, and all of a sudden the computer freaked out and now i am getting pornographic pop-ups, and when i "x" out of the pop-up, the internet explorer window i was working in turns all white and i have to close it and restart IE. i have done a trend micro house call and it told me that i had 41 viruses on the computer.

Hello and welcome to Malware Removal.

My name is km2357 and I will be helping you to remove any infection(s) that you may have.

I will be giving you a series of instructions that need to be followed in the order in which I give them to you.

If for any reason you do not understand an instruction or are just unsure then please do not guess, simply post back with your questions/concerns and we will go through it again.

Please do not start another thread or topic, I will assist you at this thread until we solve your problems.

Lastly the fix may take several attempts and my replies may take some time but I will stick with it if you do the same.

I will be back as soon as possible with your first instructions!

Step # 1:Remove one of your Anti Virus programs.

You are operating your computer with multiple Anti Virus programs running in memory at once:

McAfee

Symantec

Anti-virus programs take up an enormous amount of your computer's resources when they are actively scanning your computer. Having two anti-virus programs running at the same time can cause your computer to run very slow, become unstable and even, in rare cases, crash.

Please remove one of them.

Step # 2 Download and run DDS

Download DDS and save it to your desktop from here or here.
Disable any script blocker, and then double click dds.scr to run the tool.
  • When done, DDS will open two (2) logs:
    1. DDS.txt
    2. Attach.txt
  • Save both reports to your desktop. Post them back to your topic.

Step # 3: Download and Run Gmer

Please download gmer.zip from Gmer and save it to your desktop.

***Please close any open programs ***

Double-click gmer.exe. The program will begin to run.

**Caution**
These types of scans can produce false positives. Do NOT take any action on any "<--- ROOKIT" entries unless advised by a trained Security Analyst

If possible rootkit activity is found, you will be asked if you would like to perform a full scan.
  • Click No.
  • Once the scan is complete, you may receive another notice about rootkit activity.
  • Click OK.
  • GMER will produce a log. Click on the Save button, and save the log as gmer.txt somewhere you can easily find it, such as your desktop.
If you do not receive notice about possible rootkit activity remain on the Rootkit/Malware tab & make sure the 'Show All' button is unticked.
  • Click the Scan button and let the program do its work. GMER will produce a log.
  • Click on the Save button, and save the log as gmer.txt somewhere you can easily find it, such as your desktop.

DO NOT touch the PC at ALL for Whatever reason/s until it has 100% completed its scan, or attempted scan in case of some error etc !

Please post the results from the GMER scan in your reply.

In your next post/reply, I need to see the following:

1. The two DDS Logs (DDS and attach.txt)
2. The GMER Log

Use multiple posts if you can't fit everything into one post.

You did the scan correctly. :)

Step # 1: Download and Run ComboFix

We will begin with ComboFix.exe. Please visit this webpage for download links, and instructions for running the tool:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix

*Ensure you have disabled all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

* IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop

When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.

Unread postby km2357 » November 10th, 2009, 2:30 am

i did the scan, i though i had mcafee disabled, but i didn't, i hope i didn't mess anything up..

ComboFix looks like it ran fine. :)

According to the ComboFix log, McAfee is out of date. Is your subscription to McAfee still current? If it is, make sure to update it ASAP.

Step # 1: Run CFScript

  • Please open Notepad (Start -> Run -> type notepad in the Open field -> OK) and copy and paste the text present inside the code box below:

    Code: Select all
    http://www.malwareremoval.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=484090#p484090

    KILLALL::

    Collect::

    c:\windows\system32\zujevuho.dll
    c:\windows\system32\botapovu.dll

  • Save this as CFScript.txt and change the "Save as type" to "All Files" and place it on your desktop.

    Image

Note: This CFScript is for use on sblendo5's computer only! Do not use it on your computer.

  • Referring to the screenshot above, drag CFScript.txt into ComboFix.exe.
  • ComboFix will now run a scan on your system. It may reboot your system when it finishes. This is normal.
  • When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Copy and paste the contents of the log in your next reply.

CAUTION: Do not mouse-click ComboFix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

Please Note:

When ComboFix finishes running, the ComboFix log will open along with a message box--do not be alarmed. ComboFix is capturing a file/files to submit for analysis.

Ensure you are connected to the internet and click OK on the message box.

Please let me know if the file was successfully submitted. Thanks.

In your next post/reply, I need to see the following:

1. The ComboFix Log that appears after Step 1 has been completed.
2. A fresh DDS Log taken after Step 1 has been completed.

i have removed mcafee from my computer, i will purchase a new virus protection program when all is complete.

Ok, no problem with removing McAfee from the computer, but you do need an Anti-Virus installed on the computer. While I'm helping you might pick something up and having an AV installed can stop that.

Here are two free AV's to choose from. You may end up liking the one you install, so then you won't have to buy a new AV when we're finished. :)

1)Antivir PersonalEdition Classic
2)avast! 4 Home Edition

Download and install only one!

Also, it doesn't look like the zip file that ComboFix created was uploaded. Please do the following:

Go to the C:\Qoobox\Quarantine\ folder and find the [4]Submit@Date_Time.zip file. The zip file will have the time/date it was created in its name.

Once you've located the file, go to the following website and follow the instructions to upload the file:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/submit- ... ?channel=4

In the Link to topic where this file was requested box, put the link to this thread in the box.

Let me know when the file has been uploaded/submitted.

  • Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
  • The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.

  • Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply.

Extra Note:

If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts, click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process. If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately.

In your next post/reply, I need to see the following:

According to your latest DDS Log, you haven't installed an AV yet to replace McAfee. The longer your computer goes without an AV the better your chances of infection/reinfection.

Please install one of the Anti-Viruses that I linked to in this post.

Thanks. :)

Step # 1 Update Adobe Acrobat Reader

There is a newer version of Adobe Acrobat Reader available. (See Note below)

  • First, go to Add/Remove Programs and uninstall Adobe Reader 8.1.2.
  • Please go to this link Adobe Acrobat Reader Download Link
  • On the right Untick Adobe Phototshop Album Starter Edition if you do not wish to include this in the installation.
  • Click the Continue button
  • Click Run, and click Run again
  • Next click the Install Now button and follow the on screen prompts

Note: Adobe 9.2.0 is a large program and if you prefer a smaller program you can get Foxit 3.1 instead from http://www.foxitsoftware.com/pdf/rd_intro.php

If you decide to install Foxit 3.1.2 instead of Adobe, do the following during Foxit's Setup/Installation process:

Uncheck the following boxes:

I accept the License Terms and want to install Foxit Toolbar

Make Ask.com my default search

Create desktop, quick launch and start menu icon to eBay

Step # 2: Run Kaspersky Online Scan

Please go to Kaspersky website and perform an online antivirus scan.

  1. Read through the requirements and privacy statement and click on Accept button.
  2. It will start downloading and installing the scanner and virus definitions. You will be prompted to install an application from Kaspersky. Click Run.
  3. When the downloads have finished, click on Settings.
  4. Make sure these boxes are checked (ticked). If they are not, please tick them and click on the Save button:
Spyware, Adware, Dialers, and other potentially dangerous programs
      Archives
      Mail databases
  5. Click on My Computer under Scan.
  6. Once the scan is complete, it will display the results. Click on View Scan Report.
  7. You will see a list of infected items there. Click on Save Report As....
  8. Save this report to a convenient place. Change the Files of type to Text file (.txt) before clicking on the Save button.
  9. Please post this log in your next reply.

In your next post/reply, I need to see the following:

1. Kaspersky Log
2. How is the computer doing, any problems?
