Cannot Send or Receive email - possible malware?

Hello,

Everytime when I check my email using either Outlook Express or Windows Live Mail I get duplicates of the same emails (I now have 10 copies of every email). None of my new mail comes through and I get the following error:

Unable to send or receive messages for the Hotmail account.

Server Error: 0x800CCC90
Server Response: -ERR POP3 server failed to process your request

Now I didn't think that this was a Malware issue but this guy had a similar problem and it seemed to fix it:
