Malware and Trojan invasion

Unread postby mamamea » September 26th, 2009, 8:00 pm

My computer is telling me it is infected with at least 473 trojans/spyware. When I try to run it in safemode with networking and download Avast, AVG, or anything like that, and then run the software, it gets clobbered before it runs. You can click on the icon all day, but it won't run. I keep getting an icon added to my desktop that says Windows Protection Suite and it opens a window and wants you to enter credit card info to "protect" your computer. I have deleted the icon and deleted it from the recycle bin, but it keeps showing up again. My daughter was downloading pictures of Irish dance dresses and saving them to a file when these trojans were downloaded, apparently. Seems like they are in many places and the file she downloaded the pics to has been deleted, but can't get rid of the malware. Can you help? Here's the Hijack This List from Notepad:

Re: Malware and Trojan invasion

Unread postby melboy » October 7th, 2009, 4:22 am

Hi Jennifer

With reference to Malware Removal's P2P Programs Policy, please uninstall the following programs before we continue:

  • Click on Start > Control Panel and double click on Add/Remove Programs.
  • Locate LimeWire 5.2.13 and click on the Change/Remove button to uninstall it.
  • Close Add/Remove Programs and Control Panel when done.

Multiple Anti Virus programs.

Your initial HijackThis log shows you are - or you were - operating multiple Anti Virus programs on your computer:
    Avast
    AVG8
    Mcafee

It is NOT safe to have more than one anti-virus installed on a system, and that doing so not only does not provide better protection, it will actually cause additional problems. Anti-virus programs patch into the system kernel. Having more than one anti-virus patching into the system kernel will not only destabilize a system, it can corrupt system files and it WILL cause crashes! You MUST remove all but one anti-virus program.

  • Click Start
  • Go to Control Panel
  • Go to Add/Remove Programs
  • Find and click Remove for any TWO of the following (if present):

    Avast!
    AVG8
    Mcafee

From your uninstall list it looks like you may well have done this already.

Note: *Please boot to normal mode (if possible) to run the program below.*

random's system information tool (RSIT)

  • Download random's system information tool (RSIT) by random/random from HERE and save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on RSIT.exe to run RSIT.
  • Click Continue at the disclaimer screen.
  • Once it has finished, two logs will open:
    • log.txt (<<will be maximized)
    • info.txt (<<will be minimized)
  • Post both of these logs in your next reply (Sometimes you have to make several post to get the logs posted.)

Due to a lack of response, this topic is now closed.

If you still require help, please open a new thread in the Infected? Virus, malware, adware, ransomware, oh my! forum, include a fresh FRST log, and wait for a new helper.
