Unread postby myoungpepper » October 8th, 2009, 6:47 pm

Hi Cypher,

The same happened when I ran the RSIT program. Only one log was created in the notepad. The info.txt did not show up. Not sure if it's included in the other one or not, but either way, I don't have it to send.

I'll have to do some things on the pc b4 I can let u know how it's running. Will get back to you!

Thanks for all ur help!

Hi myoungpepper.
Good work so far lets continue :)

Delete Files - Folders

We need to perform some manual clean up.
  • Right click on the Start...button.
  • Select Explore...from the menu.
  • Navigate to and find the following files and/or folders: if found, delete it.

    C:\RSIT\info.txt <<< File.

  • If you were unable to find or delete it, Please let me know in your next reply.

Next

Fix HijackThis entries

Run HijackThis

  • If you are on the Main Menu page... Click "Do a system scan only"
  • If you are on the "scan & fix stuff" page... Press the Scan...button.
  • When the scan finishes...Place a check mark next to the following entries (if they are still present)
  • Note: Only check those items listed below.

    R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {EF99BD32-C1FB-11D2-892F-0090271D4F88} - (no file)
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {02478D38-C3F9-4efb-9B51-7695ECA05670} - (no file)
    O2 - BHO: Google Toolbar Notifier BHO - {AF69DE43-7D58-4638-B6FA-CE66B5AD205D} - C:\Program Files\Google\GoogleToolbarNotifier\5.3.4501.1418\swg.dll

  • After checking these items... CLOSE ALL open windows except HijackThis.
  • Click the Fix Checked ...button...to remove the entries you checked.
  • Choose YES...when prompted to fix the selected items.
  • Once it has fixed them, close HijackThis and reboot your computer normally.

Next.

  • Double click on RSIT.exe to run it.
  • Please read the disclaimer... click on Continue.
  • RSIT will start running. When done... 2 logs files...will be produced.
  • The first one, "log.txt", << will be maximized
  • The second one, "info.txt", << will be minimized.
Please post both... "log.txt" and "info.txt", file contents in your next reply.

Re: Unable to Load Adobe Flasplayer possible due to virus!

Unread postby myoungpepper » October 9th, 2009, 5:04 pm

Hi Cypher,

I was able to locate the C:RSIT\info.txt file, but not thru the Explore option, there's not one on my pc. But, non-the-less, I did find it and deleted it. I also have the log text document in that file. Do I leave that one alone or delete it also? I promise you only the log text showed up when I ran the scan. I didn't think to go to the file to see if the info.txt file was there. Hopefully this hasn't messed up anything you wanted to do. I will wait to perform the other tasks after your reply.

Hi myoungpepper.
Any time your not sure about something you right to ask first

Do you mean you don't have the explore option on your pc when you right click on start?

First delete just the info.txt file, then go ahead with the rest of the instructions.

1. Fix HijackThis entries
2. Double click on RSIT.exe to run it.
3. Disable Winpatrol
4. ESET online scannner

Then post the requested logs.

Hi Cypher,

Yes, I was saying I don't have the Explore option on my pc. But, I knew how to get where you were wanting me to go, so it really doesn't matter. Just letting you know.

This time when I ran the RSIT program, both logs showed up after the scan. So, I am about to send them your way. But, before I do, I want you to also know that I'm still getting an error sometimes when I sign on to my AOL or IE about the Adobe Flash Player. The error title is: Adobe Flash Player Active X Setup. Then in the box it says Failed to install. For troubleshooting tips, please see http://www.adobe.com/go/tn_19166
This was before running the last scan, so will see if that happens again since the scan.

Hi Cypher,

I did download the Adobe Flash Player from the link you provided just as you instructed, so not sure why that error msg. keeps coming up. Here are the results of the ESET log scan.

Hi myoungpepper.

The problems you are still experiencing are not coming from malware as all of your latest logs have come back clean.
When I am faced with this type of problem I go to these sites below. I have asked for help there myself and they have always been able to solve my problems.

Tech support guy

And

What the tech

So as I said above your logs are clean, I hope you can resolve your other problem with the links that I provided.

Download OTC by Old Timer and save it to your Desktop. This tool will remove all the tools we used to clean your pc.

  • Double-click OTC.exe
  • Click the CleanUp! button
  • Select Yes when the Begin cleanup Process? Prompt appears
  • If you are prompted to Reboot during the cleanup, select Yes
  • The tool will delete itself once it finishes, if not delete it by yourself

Note: If you receive a warning from your firewall or other security programs regarding OTC attempting to contact the internet, please allow it to do so.

You can now delete any tools we used that still remain on your desktop.

Now that you are clean, please follow these simple steps in order to keep your computer clean and secure:

Create a new, clean System Restore point

  1. Click on Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore.
  2. On the Welcome Page, select Create a restore point. Click Next.
  3. Give this restore point a descriptive name and click Create.
  4. When done, click Close.

Warning: Do not clear infected System Restore points before creating a new System Restore point first!

Please read the above to create a new System Restore point first, then clear out the infected System Restore points.

Flush infected System Restore points

1. Right click on My Computer and select Properties.
2. Select the System Restore tab.
3. Check (tick) Turn off system restore on all drives box.
4. Click Apply.
5. Uncheck (untick) Turn off system restore on all drives box.
6. Click OK.
7. Restart your computer.
Note: Do this only ONCE, don't flush it regularly.

Here are some free programs I recommend that could help you improve your computer's security.

Install Sitehound
SiteHound is a toolbar for Microsoft Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox which alerts you if you're about to enter a potentially dangerous website.
You can find more information and download it from Here

Install MVPS Hosts File From Here

The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well know ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your computer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer.
You can Find the Tutorial HERE

Update your Antivirus programs and other security products regularly to avoid new threats that could infect your system.
You can use one of these sites to check if any updates are needed for your pc.
Secunia Software Inspector
F-secure Health Check

Visit Microsoft often to get the latest updates for your computer
You can do that HERE

Please check out Tony Klein's article "How did I get infected in the first place?"

Read some information HERE On how to prevent Malware

Is your pc running slow?
Read What to do if your Computer is running slowly

Safe surfing! :)

As any remaining issues do not involve malware and therefore fall outside the scope of this forum, this topic is now closed.

If these non-malware issues remain and you feel you require further help, we suggest that you seek help at a general troubleshooting forum.
