Unable to Load Adobe Flasplayer possible due to virus!

Unread postby myoungpepper » September 25th, 2009, 11:38 am

I am currently having issues downloading Adobe Flashplayer, among some other less frustrating issues. I had help thru MRU in May and things were running good then. I'm not sure when this started, but it's been happening for at least 2 mo's. every time I attempt to update Adobe. I am getting an "NSIS ERROR that says: The installer you are trying to use is corrupted or incomplete. This could be the result of a damaged disk, a failed download or a virus. It may be possible to skip this check using the /NCRC command line switch (NOT RECOMMENDED)." After I clicked on the download button, it locked up my AOL program. Now when I sign on, it won't open up because the program is still attempting to load in AOL. I am using IE to corrospond. Attached is my hijack this log. Looking forward to getting this worked out. :)

  • Please DO NOT run any other tools or scans whilst I am helping you.
  • Please DO NOT install any other software (or hardware) during the cleaning process. This adds more items to be researched.
  • Print each set of instructions... if possible...your Internet connection might not be available during some fix processes.
  • Your security programs may give warnings for some of the tools I will ask you to use. Be assured, any links I give are safe.
  • The logs from the tools we use can take some time to research so please be patient.

If you follow these guidelines, things should proceed smoothly. :)
I am currently reviewing your log, and will return as soon as possible with your instructions.

Unread postby Cypher » October 2nd, 2009, 11:00 am

Hi myoungpepper.

RSIT (Random's System Information Tool)

Please download RSIT by random/random... and save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on RSIT.exe to run it.
  • Please read the disclaimer... click on Continue.
  • RSIT will start running. When done... 2 logs files...will be produced.
  • The first one, "log.txt", << will be maximized
  • The second one, "info.txt", << will be minimized.
Please post both... "log.txt" and "info.txt", file contents in your next reply.
(These logs can be lengthy, so post 1 log per reply please.)

Next.

Please download GMER Rootkit Scanner from Here.
  • Double click the .exe file. If asked to allow gmer.sys driver to load, please consent
  • If it gives you a warning about rootkit activity and asks if you want to run scan...click on NO

    Image
Click the image to enlarge it
  • In the right panel, you will see several boxes that have been checked. Uncheck the following ...
    • Sections
    • IAT/EAT
    • Drives/Partition other than Systemdrive (typically C:\)
    • Show All (don't miss this one)
  • Then click the Scan button & wait for it to finish
  • Once done click on the [Save..] button, and in the File name area, type in "Gmer.txt" or it will save as a .log file
  • Save it where you can easily find it, such as your desktop, and post it in your next reply
**Caution**
Rootkit scans often produce false positives. Do NOT take any action on any "<--- ROOKIT" entries

Note: Do not run any programs while Gmer is running.

In your next reply.

1. RSIT log.txt file contents and info.txt file contents.
2. Gmer.txt log.

OMG, what a PAIN!
I did d/l and run the GMER Scanner and boy this opened a can of worms that seems to be determined not to let me complete this clean-up process. I just went through explaining the whole scenereo and before I could finish, the whole screen cleared out on me, so I will attempt to explain again!
After following your instructions, the scan took about 2 hrs. to run. When it finally completed, my system wacked out! My WinPatrol kept showing me programs that were wanting to start up that it should have already been showing as start-up programs. I attempted to copy the scan info to place on this log and my system froze up. I clicked on the start button and attempted to go to "all programs" only to see the files were empty. As I scrolled the cursor across the programs on the pop-up menu from the start button each one would disappear as the cursor went over it. I could never get anything to work. Then I started getting an error saying there was not enough memory/space on the system to perform the task I was trying to perform. This was with anything I tried. I fianlly had to shut down and restart. Once I did that, the programs were showing in the start-up menu, but my wireless network connection was disabled. I still don't know what to do to get the scan info to you, am sure it's gone since I had to restart my system. If I have to run it again, how do I copy the info and get it here. It didn't show up on a Notebook page and I'm not sure how to put it on one.

I hope what I've explained makes some kind of sense to you and you can continue to guide me thru all of this. Thanks for your help and patience.

Hi myoungpepper.

Lets try this.

Reboot your computer in Safe Mode.
  • If the computer is running, shut down Windows, and then turn off the power.
  • Wait 30 seconds, and then turn the computer on.
  • Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options Menu appears. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a "keyboard error" message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again.
  • Ensure that the Safe Mode option is selected.
  • Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.
  • Login on your usual account.

Next

1. Gmer.txt log.

Hi Cypher,

I really hate to sound dumb, but you said after I reboot in safe mode to double click on the .exe file. I understand all your instructions but this! Where do I find the .exe file? Is that the gmer program on my desktop I loaded yesterday? I have learned alot, but still am such a novice when it comes to this stuff. I can only imagine how frustrating it is to work with someone with even less knowledge than me..lol. Also, my system is old and I remember when I had to reboot in safe mode b4 it wouldn't work tapping on F8, but I don't remember what I had to tap on. I think it was F1. Does that sound right to you? Thanks for all of your help and your patience. Have a great day!

Okay, I tried to log on to safe mode and tapping on F8 didn't work. It gave me the option to select a boot device. So, I tried F1 and it didn't work either. It put me in the BIOS Mode. Non of these had the option to start up in "safe mode". So, I'm once again at a loss as to what to do. Should I try to run the GMER scan in regular mode once again, or is there something else I can do to get into Safe Mode?

Hi myoungpepper.

Ok lets try a different scan.

Please Download SysProt Antirootkit
you will find it at the bottom of the page under attachments, or you can get it from one of the mirrors.

Unzip it into a folder on your desktop.
  • Double click Sysprot.exe to start the program.
  • Click on the Log tab.
  • In the Write to log box select all items and check Hidden Objects Only at the bottom of the window.
  • Click on the Create Log button on the bottom right.
  • After a few seconds a new window should appear.
  • Select Scan Root Drive. Click on the Start button.
  • When it is complete a new window will appear to indicate that the scan is finished.
  • The log will be saved automatically in the same folder Sysprot.exe was extracted to. Open the text file and copy/paste the log here.

Next

Please download BootCheck.exe to your desktop.
  • Double click BootCheck.exe to run the check
  • When complete, a Notepad window will open with some text in it
  • Save the Notepad file to your desktop as BootCheck.txt
  • Copy the contents of BootCheck.txt and post it in your next reply

In your next reply.

1.Sysprot log.
2. BootCheck.txt log.
