Infected and Antivirus doesnt work-Hijack This wont even run

Hello. Looking through previous forum entries it seems like this is the place I need to be. My computer became infected this morning. I first noticed the problem when my AVG started saying email scanning was turned off and I couldn't turn it back on. I tried running a scan with AVG and the scan wouldn't even start. I tried booting up Ad-Aware but it said it couldn't connect to the service. I uninstalled then reinstalled and was able to get Ad-Aware running. It scanned for a few seconds then disappeared. When I tried running it again I got the failed to connect to service error again. I tried uninstalling AVG and the uninstall would not even finish and kept ending with an error. I tried installing Spybot S&D, Rootkit buster, Housecall, and Malwarebytes. All installed ok but ending up quitting and disappearing a few seconds into a scan. I installed Hijack This in order to paste a log file with this post but HJT also ended up crashing during the scan. As recommended in other posts I then tried renaming the HJT.exe to something else but I keep getting errors that the program is in use. I even tried rebooting and then renaming but got the same error. I also tried uninstalling HJT which resulted in an error also. I should also note that all the icons for the above programs appear now as standard blank windows icons now instead of their program icons.

I have always thought of myself as pretty computer savy but now I'm stumped.

I look forward to the wisdom from someone here to help guide me through this tricky situation.

We understand that you are having difficulty running certain programs, including HijackThis. However, in order for us to help you it is necessary that you provide us with a HijackThis log, and it is possible you may be able to trick the malware into letting you do this. First, download HijackThis to a clean computer, then rename it from HijackThis.exe to any other name you want, using an .exe extension, for example... YourLastName.exe. Once you have done that, burn it to a CD (preferable to using a flash drive that may easily become infected) then transfer the renamed file to the infected computer and run a scan, then start a new topic and include your HijackThis log.

Please follow the guideline at the link below to start a new topic and post your HijackThis log. If you are unable to create and post a HijackThis log, then your only option may be to reformat your computer and reinstall the operating system.
