Internet unbelievable S L O W. Hijacked??

Unread postby MrEC » August 29th, 2009, 9:02 am

Occasionally of late Google's been thinking I'm an automated search bot and requires a captcha field to verify I'm human. Plus today it was taking 5-10 seconds each time I deleted keywords from an online list of words at Nichebot (keyword analyzing site) utilizing 100% of system my computer resources each time. In the past, that process was lightning fast.

Thanks in advance for your guidance.

Hello and Welcome to forums!

My name is Bio-Hazard and I will be helping you to remove any infection(s) that you may have.

Please observe these rules while we work:

  • I will be working on your Malware issues this may or may not solve other issues you have with your machine.
  • The fixes are specific to your problem and should only be used for this issue on this machine.
  • I f you don't know or understand something please don't hesitate to ask.
  • Please DO NOT run any other tools or scans whilst I am helping you.
  • It is important that you reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.
  • Your security programs may give warnings for some of the tools I will ask you to use. Be assured, any links I give are safe.
  • Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear.

Please be aware that removing Malware is a potentially hazardous undertaking. I will take care not to knowingly suggest courses of action that might damage your computer. However it is impossible for me to foresee all interactions that may happen between the software on your computer and those we'll use to clear you of infection, and I cannot guarantee the safety of your system. It is possible that we might encounter situations where the only recourse is to re-format and re-install your operating system, or to necessitate you taking your computer to a repair shop.

Because of this, I advise you to backup any personal files and folders before you start.

No Reply Within 3 Days Will Result In Your Topic Being Closed!!

STEP 1

Download DDS

Please download DDS by sUBs from one of the links below and save it to your desktop:

Image
Download DDS and save it to your desktop from:

Link 1
Link 2

Please disable any anti-malware program that will block scripts from running before running DDS.

  • Double-Click on dds.scr and a command window will appear. This is normal.
  • Shortly after two logs will appear:
    • DDS.txt
    • Attach.txt
  • A window will open instructing you save & post the logs
  • Save the logs to a convenient place such as your desktop
  • Copy the contents of both logs & post in your next reply

STEP 2

Gmer

Please download Gmer by Gmer and save it to your desktop.

  • Double click the .exe file. If asked to allow gmer.sys driver to load, please consent
  • If it gives you a warning about rootkit activity and asks if you want to run scan...click on NO

    Image
Click the image to enlarge it
  • In the right panel, you will see several boxes that have been checked. Uncheck the following ...
    • Sections
    • IAT/EAT
    • Drives/Partition other than Systemdrive (typically C:\)
    • Show All (don't miss this one)
  • Then click the Scan button & wait for it to finish
  • Once done click on the [Save..] button, and in the File name area, type in "Gmer.txt" or it will save as a .log file
  • Save it where you can easily find it, such as your desktop, and post it in reply

**Caution**
Rootkit scans often produce false positives. Do NOT take any action on any "<--- ROOKIT" entries

Note: Do not run any programs while Gmer is running.

Thanks BioHazard.

The computer in question is at another location. After confirming the safety of your recommended downloads, I'll follow your instructions. Back to you in a few hours.

Hi. Got back in town last night. Ran Gmer. This morning my computer was frozen. Realized I forgot to disable my anti-virus. I'll rerun the scan this evening when the computer is idle and send the logs in the morning.

Gmer runs all night (6-8 hours) yet is not complete when I awaken. For the past two mornings it's been scanning \documentsandsettings\owner\local\temp when I check it. Any reason NOT to delete everything in that folder? I use the computer daily. Anything I can do to reduce what is being scanned to speed up the process? Wanted to check with you before hitting the delete key.

BTW..when this is over, how can I support you and the others working this board? I really appreciate your help.

I started gmer when I left for work this morning. I'll send the dds.txt and access.txt files as soon as I get home.

I think I figured out the hang up on gmer, Bio-Hazard...

I didn't disable the anti-virus.Attached are the dds.txt and attach.txt files. I'll retry gmer tonight with the anti-virus disabled.

Use of P2P (Person to Person) file sharing programs

I notice there are signs of one or more P2P (Person to Person) File Sharing Programs on your computer.

LimeWire 4.16.6

Please read the Guidelines for P2P Programs where we explain why it's not a good idea to have them. Please remove it before we can continue any further. Post back when you have done it so we can continue the cleaning process.

NOTE: Even if you are using a safe P2P program, it is only the program that is safe. You will be sharing files from uncertified sources, and these are often infected. The bad guys use P2P filesharing as a major conduit to spread their wares.

Registry Cleaners

Re. Registry Medic 2008

I don't personally recommend the use of ANY registry cleaners. Here is an excerpt from a discussion on regcleaners
Most reg cleaners aren't bad as such, but they aren't perfect and even the best have been known to cause problems. The point we are trying to make is that the risk of using one far outweighs any benefit. If it does work perfectly you will not see any difference. If it doesn't work properly you may end up with an expensive doorstop.

Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and save it to your desktop.

  • Make sure you are connected to the Internet.
  • Double-click on mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
  • When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings.
  • When installation has finished, make sure you leave both of these checked:
    • Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
    • Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  • Then click Finish.
  • MBAM will automatically start and you will be asked to update the program before performing a scan. If an update is found, the program will automatically update itself. Press the OK button to close that box and continue. If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates, manually download them from here and just double-click on mbam-rules.exe to install.
  • On the Scanner tab:
    • Make sure the Perform Full Scan option is selected.
    • Then click on the Scan button.
  • If asked to select the drives to scan, leave all the drives selected and click on the Start Scan button.
  • The scan will begin and Scan in progress will show at the top. It may take some time to complete so please be patient.
  • When the scan is finished, a message box will say The scan completed successfully. Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found.
  • Click OK to close the message box and continue with the removal process.
  • Back at the main Scanner screen, click on the Show Results button to see a list of any malware that was found.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When removal is completed, a log report will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to restart your computer. (see Note below)
  • The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply and exit MBAM.
Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts. Click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process. If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware.

Will do, Bio-Hazard.

And thanks for the education about P2P and Registry Cleaners.
Oh, what we don't know dangers hiding as benefits.
