Please check my Hijack log

Unread postby dtheall » August 17th, 2009, 10:58 pm

I ran Secunia check which said my Adobe flash was out of date. I downloaded Flash update - which failed with a message saying the installation was corrupt! I know I was on Adobe website when I got the download. Am running scans now. I don't think I downloaded anything nasty but would like to check since I'm not 100% sure. Here is my Hijack log. Flash was not updated, last install in programs was 4/2009. I did have a Adobe download manager install - which I removed (see attached).

Do I even need Adobe flash? Won't it just limit my ability to view certain website feature/function? I use Reader but can I delete Flash? And if so how do I get rid of the Adobe Active X that is noted below in my Hijack log under BHOs? thank you.

Hi dtheall,
------------------------------------------
UNINSTALL Flash Player
http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/141/tn_14157.html
-------------------
REBOOT
-------------------
Now do this, only if the Uninstall above appeared to be successful:
Get the Newest Version Flash Player
http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ (Be sure to UNCHECK the Toolbar)

Let me know how it goes.

dtheall,
Your HJT log does look OK.

Adobe flash player is used to play those mini-videos on various websites.
If it's on your machine, it is very important it be kept up to date, since it has been an entry point for bad guys.
If everything goes OK with the flash player, I would just like to check the other programs installed on your machine.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Retrieve the List of Installed programs Using HJT
Open HijackThis, click Open The Misc Tools Section. Then scroll down the list if you need to, click Open Uninstall Manager and Save List...
The List of installed programs will automatically be saved as uninstall_list.txt in your HiJackThis folder.
In addition, the list opens in Notepad so you can also save as another name in another location if you wish.
Please paste the contents into your next reply.

dtheall,
There are no other items showing in your HiJackThis logs that need attention.
Is your system running OK?
Do you want me to look in more detail for anything else?

My system is running fine, thank you for checking it out. I am getting an error from the Adobe download (I think from Download manager) when I boot up. It's a weird Bluetooth error, I don't know why it happens. IT also comes up when I download a new version of Malwarebytes. I removed the DL mgr from start up. I could take a snip of the error if it comes up again and post it here but I don't think it's anything virus-related.

dtheall,
You can always get the Download manager again if needed.
It doesn't sound like any malware issue.
