Hello and welcome to Malware Removal Forums

IMPORTANT

Whatever repairs we make, are for fixing your computer problems only and by no means should be used on another computer.
To make cleaning this machine easier:-
  • Continue to respond to this thread until I give you the All Clean!
  • Please DO NOT uninstall/install any programs unless asked to. It is more difficult when files/programs appear or disappear from the logs.
  • Please do not run any scans other than those requested and do not post any logs/reports unless specifically requested to do so.
  • Please follow all instructions in the order posted.
  • If you have any questions or do not understand instructions, please ask before continuing.
  • Please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.

You computer is certainly infected and one of the reasons of this would be lack of Antivirus software. Is there a reason for this? You are also running a seriously outdated version of XP, that being Windows XP SP1. Is there a reason for this?
IMPORTANT Please do not update your service pack until the computer is clean.

Make an uninstall list using HijackThis
To access the Uninstall Manager you would do the following:
  • Start HijackThis
  • Click on the Config button
  • Click on the Misc Tools button
  • Click on the Open Uninstall Manager button.
  • Click on the Save list... button and specify where you would like to save this file. When you press Save button a notepad will open with the contents of that file. Save the file to your desktop.

Please post this log on your next reply.

NEXT WGA Diagnostic Tool

Please follow this WGA troubleshooting procedure:

Please post (reply) with the results.

Please reply with:-
  • Uninstall list
  • WGA report
  • New HJT log

Hi there,

There seem to be a bit of a problem with your Windows, it does not appear to be validated. We will have to sort that issue out before cleaning.

Please go here and post back the report.

Hi, Ok we have to try another couple of steps because before we can clean your computer we have to know that windows is genuine and it will be able to update to the recent service pack once clean.

Do you have the XP disks at all?

Please go Here and click validate? What
does it say?

Then, open the start menu, then press run and type in "wgatray.exe /b". – Let me know what happens

Afterwards, head back to to http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/diag, click start, then what does the initial diagnostics run say?

Hiya,
I don't have the original xp discs as we've had this computer for years,

After going to validate windows it made me download a plug in for firefox and thencame up with:

Validation Complete!

Thank you for completing the validation process and for using genuine Microsoft software.

By using genuine Microsoft software, you can be confident that you will have access to the latest features, security, and support, which will help to improve your productivity and expand the capabilities of your computer.

You will also have access to new innovations and offerings available only to genuine Microsoft software customers.

wgatray.exe/b : if you type this into
run it comes with with a file not found error message

microsoft diagnostic:

Passed Active scripting allowed
Passed Display images enabled
Passed Computer time and date correct
Passed Cookies enabled
Passed Plug-ins enabled
Failed Microsoft Genuine Advantage plug-ins are installed and loaded
Passed Office validation ActiveX loaded
Passed Validation Self-help ActiveX loaded
Failed Microsoft Genuine Advantage plug-ins connect with Microsoft validation servers

cheers!

Hi there, Unfortunately I am going to have to withdraw my help at this stage. Your copy of Windows does not appear to be a genuine copy. I am not saying that this is your ‘fault’ but either way it needs to be rectified before I can continue.

Please read our Forum Policy

The policy wrote:It is this forum's policy to decline help to those who are either using invalid copies of software and/or are attempting to circumvent the software's restrictions in order to use said software without lawfully purchasing the product, in violation of the EULA (End User License Agreement).
To do otherwise would put us in the position of aiding and abetting an unlawful act.
The forum's policy on invalid copies of Windows or Other Software is here : http://forum.malwareremoval.com/viewtopic.php?t=550

As the information you have posted indicates that your system falls into this category, we are unable to offer assistance until it can be conclusively demonstrated that this situation has been rectified.

In light of this, this topic will be closed.

Due to your Windows software, this topic is now closed.

If you can rectify the problem with your Windows software and need further assistance from us, please open a new thread in the Malware Removal forum, include a fresh HijackThis log, and wait for a new helper.
