Need help to clean computer

Unread postby Catia » August 23rd, 2009, 4:26 am

I am trying to clean this computer up, to be sure it is infection free and get the junk out of it. I need some assistance to decide what problems I may have and what to do. I recently put Comodo Anti Virus/ Firewall, Spywareblaster, and ATF Cleaner in it.

The Comodo Scan is showing 7 items, mostly Heuristics. One file that comes up on the Comodo scan, with OTMoveit in it concerns me if that should have been done? I would also like to remove any useless or bad programs, like lightscribe?

Thanks

Hi Catia

All flagged with Heur.Suspicious are heuristic detections and false positives in this case.

This is in system restore and inactive:

Application.Win32.KillProc.~A@8366151 C:\System Volume Information\_restore{2466A83D-1B81-456E-9766-38C2B7E48210}\RP351\A0032572.exe

This from HP installation package which includes mywebsearch:

UnclassifiedMalware@9176546 C:\_OTMoveIt\MovedFiles\I386\Apps\APP17317\src\HPSummer2005.exe

Do you have any malware issues or other concerns?

Hi Shaba and thank you.

There is no symptoms or concern at this time. I was just not sure if it had a problem. It had been slow but that is better now and seems to be doing good after removing some junk and getting new programs on it. I did a malwarebytes anti malware scan and that came up clean.

Should the system restore be reset? And is there any other useless HP stuff to clean?

Thanks again

So let's check this:

  • Download random's system information tool (RSIT) by random/random from here and save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on RSIT.exe to run RSIT.
  • Click Continue at the disclaimer screen.
  • Once it has finished, two logs will open. Please post the contents of both log.txt (<<will be maximized) and info.txt (<<will be minimized)

One reason for slowness is here:

Total RAM: 383 MB (49% free)

You have too little RAM for XP for work smoothly. I recommend to add more if possible.

This might also help here.

Ok I will do that as soon as I can.

I have a question, the 6 "Sonic" items in Add/Remove programs, can that be deleted without issues? It is never used and taking up plenty of MB. I also don't like the "Sonic Updater" being a program on this computer.

Also in Add/Remove programs I don't know what that "KBD" is.

And I am wondering if that item in the system restore causes it to need to be reset?
Application.Win32.KillProc.~A@8366151 C:\System Volume Information\_restore{2466A83D-1B81-456E-9766-38C2B7E48210}\RP351\A0032572.exe

Thanks Shaba, I will see you soon.

If you are completely sure that you don't need, then you can uninstall them.

KBD is HP related program.

"And I am wondering if that item in the system restore causes it to need to be reset?
Application.Win32.KillProc.~A@8366151 C:\System Volume Information\_restore{2466A83D-1B81-456E-9766-38C2B7E48210}\RP351\A0032572.exe"

No as it is most likely false positive.

Ok good. I will make sure my mother has no attachment to those sonic programs before removing them.

I am going down the list you gave me.
I will begin the defrag. I have looked at the auto start programs before. There is two which I am thinking maybe can be disabled but need to look up what they are first and get back to you about it. I will try to do that tonight.

HP seemed to put a lot of stuff in this computer.
