Kathy,
-----------------------------------------------
Run the RSIT Scanner
Please download the scanner from here and save it to your desktop. The icon will be named RSIT.exe
Doubleclick the RSIT icon.
When the scan is complete, two text files will open
log.txt <- this one will be maximized
info.txt <- this one will be minimized
( Default location for both files is C:\rsit\ )
Copy/Paste the contents of both log.txt and info.txt into your next post please. Use two posts if you prefer.

Kathy,
The contents of the two files, both log.txt and info.txt are incomplete.
If you get the whole thing each should say this on the last line: -----------------EOF-----------------

If you would like details on how to do this, as follows:
While you are online here to MWR, please do the following to get the entire contents:
Would you please go to My Computer, double click C: drive and then double click the folder named rsit.
Inside there are several files. Click the View menu and choose Details.
Now double click log.txt. It will come up in Notepad.
Now hit simultaneously Ctrl and A. That should highlight the entire log. Now hit simultaneously Ctrl and C. That will copy the whole thing to the Windows clipboard.
Now go into MWR here, click Post Reply at the bottom of your thread, and in the box hit Ctrl and V simultaneously. That should paste the entire log.txt file into your reply box. You can scroll the box down and make sure it says "EOF" in the last line. Now click Submit. The log will be entered in its entirety as a reply.

Please repeat the entire process with the file named info.txt, in a new separate reply.
Let me know how it goes.

Kathy,
Thanks for the logs.
While I am working on them, please try to run a scan with ESET.
-----------------------------------------------
Run Eset NOD32 Online AntiVirus
http://www.eset.eu/online-scanner
Note: You will need to use Internet Explorer for this scan.
  • Tick the box next to YES, I accept the Terms of Use.
  • Click Start
  • When asked, allow the ActiveX control to install
  • Disable or Exit your current Antivirus software. You can usually do this with its Notification Tray icon near the clock.
  • Click Start
  • Make sure that the option "Remove found threats" is Un-checked, and the option "Scan unwanted applications" is checked
  • Click Scan
  • Wait for the scan to finish
  • Re-enable your Antivirus software.
  • A logfile will be created and located at C:\Program Files\EsetOnlineScanner\log.txt. Please paste the contents of this file in your post.

Kathy,
It looks like any flags from Avast are false positives.
Your logs look OK.

Let's make one last check for redirects:
Are your Google searches OK now?
--------------------------------------------
Check Drivers for Redirects
Got to Start, Run
Copy and paste the following line into the box and press <Enter>.
regedit /e "%userprofile%\desktop\reglook.txt" "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Drivers32"

A file named reglook.txt will appear on your desktop. Please post the contents of that file in your next reply.

Here's the entry.
Everything seems to be working fine (and faster too!)
I thank you so much for your kindness and patience. I have learned a great deal on top of being able to use this important tool safely.

Kathy,
You are most welcome.
Remove any malicious files that have been backed up by Windows
-----------------------------------------------------------
Reset System Restore Points
  • Click Start > Help and Support
  • Click on ->Undo changes to your computer with System Restore.
  • Click Create A Restore Point then click Next. Give it a name it and then click Create, then Close.
  • Close Help and Support Center.
  • Click Start | Run and type Cleanmgr
  • Select (C: ) then click OK.
  • Click the More Options tab.
  • Click Clean Up in the System Restore Section.
This will remove all previous restore points except the newly created one.
This System Restore sequence is not to be done regularly, but only as a Special Case after the removal of malware.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Install WinPatrol - Download and Install the Free WinPatrol, and view Instructions here: http://www.winpatrol.com/winpatrol.html
- WinPatrol is an active program that drops a "Scotty Dog" icon into the system tray (right click to check/change status), allows you to monitor/edit startups, services, Browser helpers, and prompts for permission if any program tries to change your system.
-----------------------------------------------------------
A few tips for your safety going forward.:
Don't EVER, EVER, EVER download an update for a flash player or video player (called a codec) if you are asked to do so while online. The "update" presented to you will be a fake and will infect your machine.

Don't EVER accept an offer to fix your Viruses, infections, etc. if you get a popup and are asked to do so while online.
Legitimate Antivirus companies will not solicit new business via popups. The "antivirus" presented to you will be a fake, and will infect your machine.

Don't use File Sharing programs (called Peer-to-Peer or P2P) like Limewire, BitComet, uTorrent, Bittorrent, Azureus, BitLord, etc. The shared files are one of the prime sources of PC-destroying infections.
Criminals use "free" music and video files as a stealthy method of distributing their trash and stealing account information from you. The File sharing P2P programs are commonly set so they can bypass your normal security protections.

Restrict your protection programs to ONE anti-spyware program, and ONE Antivirus (Avast is very competent).
Malwarebytes Anti-Malware is just about the best Anti-Spyware application available. The paid version is worth it.
Update and Scan with it every week or so. The Quick Scan is fine.

Do not download or use any Registry cleaner, Registry Optimizer, or Boot Optimizer.

Good luck!
