IMPORTANT

Whatever repairs we make, are for fixing your computer problems only and by no means should be used on another computer.
To make cleaning this machine easier:-
  • Continue to respond to this thread until I give you the All Clean!
  • Please DO NOT uninstall/install any programs unless asked to. It is more difficult when files/programs appear or disappear from the logs.
  • Please do not run any scans other than those requested and do not post any logs/reports unless specifically requested to do so.
  • Please follow all instructions in the order posted.
  • If you have any questions or do not understand instructions, please ask before continuing.
  • Please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.

Question: Is this machine used for business?

Make an uninstall list using HijackThis
To access the Uninstall Manager you would do the following:
  • Start HijackThis
  • Click on the Config button
  • Click on the Misc Tools button
  • Click on the Open Uninstall Manager button.
  • Click on the Save list... button and specify where you would like to save this file. When you press Save button a notepad will open with the contents of that file. Save the file to your desktop.

Please post this log on your next reply.

Please reply with:-
  • Uninstall list
  • Answer to question

Answer: It used to be used for business, but no longer. It's now a personal "backup" laptop.

Also, I am performing these steps with the computer operating in Safe Mode, which seems to minimize the popup behavior.

Re: Newly infected malware-spyware computer-HJT log posted

Unread postby muppy03 » July 28th, 2009, 5:46 am

Hi Mike,
It used to be used for business, but no longer. It's now a personal "backup" laptop.

The reason I asked that particular question is that your HJT log indicates that it is a business machine and part of a domain as well. There is also business related software installed.

Therefore, as far as we can determine, this is a business computer. Although you may currently not be using it as such, we have no possible way to verify that is the case. It is forum policy that when logs indicate a machine is a business machine, we must go by what is shown in the logs.

That being the case I must turn to the forum rules which do not allow us to work on business-related computers:
In General, we do not help in cleaning business or corporate computers. There may be restrictions and modifications installed on such machines that could be damaged or altered by the actions we take to remove Malware. There may also be legal issues regarding any loss of business data that we do not wish to deal with.

The online anti-malware community primarily serves home users and is therefore not ideally suited to deal with situations that are best handled by a company's own IT department. All companies have their own set of policies and procedures for handling situations like this, which are beyond our sphere of knowledge. Therefore, as this computer has been identified as infected, you are strongly advised to immediately seek the assistance of your company's IT department so they may implement their own preferred method for handling this situation.

So I am sorry we won't be able to help you anymore, and accordingly topic will be closed.

As this computer appears to be a business computer and therefore falls outside the scope of this forum, this topic is now closed.
