I'm running Windows XP Home, and a few days ago browser hijacking started happening on occasion - e.g., try to get to wikipedia, end up being taken to some porn site. I ran Spybot and it found "Win32.TDSS.rtk." I raw a host of other programs, both in Normal and in Safe mode, including:
- Malwarebytes, which found essentially what you see in the attached malwarebytes screenshot (i.e., 2 instances of Trojan.TDSS - one a memory module and one a file) -and after it says it's removed the files, it requests that I restart the computer, which I do, only to find the malware not gone;
- Advanced System Protector, which found a bunch of various things (of which I don't have a screenshot currently) and claimed to get rid of 'em;- Spybot, which found several instances of items relating to "Win32.TDSS.rtk"
- and Kaspersky Anti Virus, which, again, has scanned & found & claimed to get rid of things in Safe and Normal mode. And when it scans - when it just starts up, actually - it finds two things, in the following succession:
1) Trojan.Win32.Monder.cqbi (or is that .cgbi? It's a bit hard to read)
and
2) Trojan.Win32.Agent.cnro
I tell it in each instance to delete the files in question, and it tells me after both happen that I will need to restart the computer to make them go away, which I do, only to find nothing has changed.
Additionally, in my Windows Task Manager I can clearly see the System Idle Processes using most of my CPU most of the time when nothing's going on. Which I've read is a sign of questionable business going on. Though I'm not certain that's true, the above findings DO convince me that questionable business is going on.
I also looked at the Device Manager and at the Non-Plug and Play Drivers since I heard something could show up there. One entry was "qumqpw" which I disabled since I couldn't figure out anything real it could be, but it hasn't seemed to help/change anything.
Currently there is also an entry in the Non-Plug and Play Drivers which is decoxtr, about which it says which it says "This device is not present, is not working properly, or does not have all its drivers installed. (Code 24)" ... and I can't find any info on it, either, so I'm guessing it's something I don't want, but I don't think attacking it itself is going to help me!
And here is the HijackThis log:
