Hi DJGarry
  • Download the latest version of Java from here, and install the program
Note:
Java has an auto-update feature. If you're ever prompted about installing a new version of Java I recommend you do so.

Did manage to get Java to download from :

https://cds.sun.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP.en ... _Developer

It seems to have worked as it needed it to run Kaspersky :)

Has Kaspersky fixed all the things it found or do we have to do that seperately .... The page is still open in my browser if nessesary.

Hi Garry.

Has Kaspersky fixed all the things it found or do we have to do that seperately

those viruses which Kaspersky found has been moved (quarantined),except those which are in system restore and inactive.
I give you later instructions how to empty it.

Other than that, any problems left?

Thanks peku006

Hi Garry

Good that your computer works normally again.
AVG is a good option, but your firewall, I can not say anything because I do not personally used it
Here are a few free firewalls........

Congratulations, your log looks clean! :)

To remove all of the tools we used and the files and folders they created do the following:

  • Double-click OTS.exe.
  • Click the CleanUp! button.
  • Select Yes when the "Begin cleanup Process?" prompt appears.
  • If you are prompted to Reboot during the cleanup, select Yes.
  • The tool will delete itself once it finishes, if not delete it by yourself.

Now that you are clean, please follow these simple steps in order to keep your computer clean and secure:

Disable and Enable System Restore-WINDOWS XP
This is a good time :

Turn off System Restore
  • On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
  • Click Properties.
  • Click the System Restore tab.
  • Check Turn off System Restore.
  • Click Apply, and then click OK.
  • Reboot.
Turn ON System Restore
  • On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
  • Click Properties.
  • Click the System Restore tab.
  • UN-Check *Turn off System Restore*.
  • Click Apply, and then click OK.
This will remove all restore points except the new one you just created.

Here are some free programs I recommend that could help you improve your computer's security.

Spybot Search and Destroy
Download it from here. Just choose a mirror and off you go.
Find here the tutorial on how to use Spybot properly here

Install SpyWare Blaster
Download it from here
Find here the tutorial on how to use Spyware Blaster here

Install WinPatrol
Download it from here
Here you can find information about how WinPatrol works here

Install FireTrust SiteHound
You can find information and download it from here

Install MVPS Hosts File from here
The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well know ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your computer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer.
Find Tutorial here : http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm

Update your Antivirus programs and other security products regularly to avoid new threats that could infect your system.
You can use one of these sites to check if any updates are needed for your pc.
Secunia Software Inspector
F-secure Health Check

Visit Microsoft often to get the latest updates for your computer.
http://www.update.microsoft.com

Please check out Tony Klein's article "How did I get infected in the first place?"

Read some information here how to prevent Malware.

Ok, I'm about to get going with the final cleanup you recomend but still can't un-install PC Guard. I have disabled it from stating the anti-virus by moving the .exe file .... but the PC Guard firewall is still running. When I try to run the un-install shortcut, it starts up but then gives up just after it started. Although PC Guard is the recommended protection from my ISP, it comes free with my package, I was not good enough to keep the bug out. The other machines I have, all run AVG and as soon as the prn drive with the virus on was put into then, AVG spotted it and killed it ......

Is there another way to get rid of all traces of PC Guard?

Won't un-install in safe mode and it doesn't appear in control panel add remove section either.

Hi peku006, first time I've seen you on-line at the same time ... :-)

That link seems to have done the trick with getting rid of PC Guard :) ... Thankyou.
I'm probably going to use ZoneAlarm firewall as I 've used it before on other mavhines ... unless you think it will be incompatable with any other software I have on this PC !!!

Everything else seems to be fine now I think :) so.....

Thankyou very much indeed for your help, you guys are invaluable :)

Good luck, Garry
