Active desktop

Unread postby strikerjax » June 14th, 2009, 9:36 pm

- I am getting a active desktop recovery screen along with a button that says 'restore my Active Desktop' (I never used Active desktop)
- My wireless network gets disconnected after 10/15 mins & doesn't reconnect and doesn't show any wireless networks
(wireless net works fine on my mac)
- sound drivers gets uninstalled

* so far I have run adware, Superantispyware, spybot and Trojan remover, but the problem is still there.

Hello and welcome to Malware Removal.

My name is peku006 and I will be helping you to remove any infection(s) that you may have.
I will be giving you a series of instructions that need to be followed in the order in which I give them to you.

Please observe these rules while we work:

  • If you don't know or understand something please don't hesitate to ask
  • Please DO NOT run any other tools or scans whilst I am helping you.
  • It is important that you reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.
  • Your security programs may give warnings for some of the tools I will ask you to use. Be assured, any links I give are safe.
  • Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear.

You are operating multiple Anti Virus programs on your computer:
    avast!
    Avira AntiVir

It is NOT safe to have more than one anti-virus installed on a system, and that doing so not only does not provide better protection, it will actually cause additional problems. Anti-virus programs patch into the system kernel. Having more than one anti-virus patching into the system kernel will not only destabilize a system, it can corrupt system files and it WILL cause crashes! You MUST remove all but one anti-virus program.

  • Click Start
  • Go to Control Panel
  • Go to Add/Remove Programs
  • Find and click Remove for the following (if present):

1 - Remove Active Desktop

  • Click Start
  • ClickControl Panel.
  • Double click on Display (or Display Properties) and click on the Desktop tab.
  • Click on Customize Desktop and click the Web tab.
  • For every item in the Web Pages box (except the "My Current Homepage" entry), uncheck it, and delete it.
  • Also, have a look at the Lock Desktop Items checkbox and make sure it is unchecked.
  • Click OK and OK again until you have exited the display properties.

2 - download and run RSIT

  • Download random's system information tool (RSIT) by random/random from here and save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on RSIT.exe to run RSIT.
  • Click Continue at the disclaimer screen.
  • Once it has finished, two logs will open. Please post the contents of both log.txt<- (will be maximized) and info.txt<- (will be minimized)

3 - Status Check
Please reply with

1.the logs from RSIT (log.txt ,info.txt)

Thanks peku006

Due to lack of activity this topic is now closed.

If you still require help, please open a new thread in the Infected? Virus, malware, adware, ransomware, oh my! forum, include a fresh FRST log, and wait for a new helper.
