Spybot 1.6, will install, but not load; ie 7 crashes

Unread postby drwiremore » June 13th, 2009, 5:26 pm

Neighbor called with problems, (for 6 months it seems). Ipod software won't work; system crashes (just power cycles, not a blue screen); to log off, you have to click log off (twice.)

System is "almost" behaving having run:
- ccleaner (for housekeepiing)
- mbam (found 400+ items, mostly trojans on a quick scan; a deep scan, found 2, and they were iin a system restore)
- kapersky's on-line scanner (Nothng found: ran quick and deep scan)

System has free AVG 8.5 installed; and while spybot has installed, I can't immunize because I can't run search & destroy, it hangs randomly when I try to run it.... stalls during loading.

Have removed spybot; confirmed no entries in the registry; tried to run it in safe mode: no joy. My hjt log is attached. Appreciate your help. thanks. dr

Update: I did find a post, although no detail, that perhaps Spybot does "not" play with AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition (V 8.5.364). Although random crashes of both ie7 and firefox are not acceptable. dr.

Update 2: I removed AVG 8.5 (okay, I know I was to wait, and this may move me back in the queue), rebooted, and the problem remains. Reinstalled AVG 8.5, brining it back to the identical state reported. (At least I know it has nothing to do with an AVG / Spybot interaction and something remains "wrong" on the system. Just an fyi. ~dr

We're sorry, but it is necessary to close your topic because you have replied to it prior to receiving a response from a helper.

Due to adding on to your topic with your second and third posts it is highly unlikely that you would have received a response. Our helpers are looking for topics with zero responses. When you post replies to your own topic, it no longer has zero responses, and so it appears that you have received help when in fact, you have not.

If you still require help, please open a new thread in the Malware Removal forum and wait for assistance. Please do not run additional programs and/or post additional logs. Just your HijackThis log to start with is adequate. Your helper will ask for additional logs as needed. DO NOT reply to your own topic until you have received a response from a helper.
