Hi - I'm having some problems with my computer and haven't been able to sort them. I should say I'm not a techie, only an 'umble user

They don't seem connected, but they started at the same time, so I'm thinking they might be.

The first and more serious problem is that it takes me several attempts before my computer starts up. I switch it on and get the DELL screen. sometimes it hangs just after that and all I have is a cursor on a black screen. Sometimes it starts up XP and hangs when I enter my password. Sometimes it starts up windows, begins loading computer and personal settings and then blue screens. (I have the blue screen message from this morning if you need it - it seems to be pointing to pctcore.sys)

When it does this it won't turn off from the button - I have to literally pull the plug on it.

Once it's up and running, everything works fine except both in Firefox and in IE, when I do a search, if I click on some of the search results, it goes to a strange page. It's never the same page - sometimes it goes to mooter then goes off somewhere else, sometimes it goes to ebay, or youtube, or something completely weird.

I've run ccleaner, I've run avast, I've run trend micro Office scan - they all claim to have caught and removed various things - but still my problems persist.

I'm hoping you can help me as I'm getting desperate!

Thanks
Ros

Hello and welcome to Malware Removal.

My name is km2357 and I will be helping you to remove any infection(s) that you may have.

I will be giving you a series of instructions that need to be followed in the order in which I give them to you.

If for any reason you do not understand an instruction or are just unsure then please do not guess, simply post back with your questions/concerns and we will go through it again.

Please do not start another thread or topic, I will assist you at this thread until we solve your problems.

Lastly the fix may take several attempts and my replies may take some time but I will stick with it if you do the same.

Sorry for the delay in replying, the forum is very busy. If you still need help, please post a fresh HiJackThis Log

Due to a lack of response, this topic is now closed.

If you still require help, please open a new thread in the Infected? Virus, malware, adware, ransomware, oh my! forum, include a fresh FRST log, and wait for a new helper.
