Google search auto redirecting, problems with YIM... others?

Unread postby kedra » June 6th, 2009, 6:00 pm

I did a scan search and came up with nothing, I know I have some Malware, perhaps some spyware that needs to be removed.

Currently, I am unable to click on links from a google search. If I click on them it auto directs me to another site, by opening another search window, instead of a new tab.

Also, my YIM application is not working. I can open it through a web browser, or from inside my email; but the application throws me an error and will not open. I have tried to uninstall and reinstall, no help.

Here is my error file... Please help

It's my personal work computer (laptop). I have both administrative log-in and rights.

I thought about just reinstalling the entire OS, but figured I'd try this first.

So if it is a work laptop, I can't provide any assistance as per rules:

"In General, we do not help in cleaning business or corporate computers. There may be restrictions and modifications installed on such machines that could be damaged or altered by the actions we take to remove Malware. There may also be legal issues regarding any loss of business data that we do not wish to deal with."

I recommend to contact IT support.

OK, let me clarify better then, this is my personal computer (laptop) that I use for work purposes at home, instead of my other personal computer that I use for gaming and entertainment purposes. My work assigned/owned computer sits in my office and is a completely separate machine.

my company IT tech support will not help me as it's not supported by them even tho i only use it to work at home. besides, all my work on this machine is RDP and not saved on the actual harddrive.

In that case I can help at your own risk.

That means that I am not in any way responsible about any work related settings etc. in that computer.

I completely understand, I had figured that before I ever looked for help there, but understand your need to communicate it. Like I said I was about ready to wipe out the whole OS.

Download gmer.zip and save to your desktop.
alternate download site
  • Unzip/extract the file to its own folder. (Click here for information on how to do this if not sure. Win 2000 users click here.
  • When you have done this, disconnect from the Internet and close all running programs.
There is a small chance this application may crash your computer so save any work you have open.
  • Double-click on Gmer.exe to start the program.
  • Allow the gmer.sys driver to load if asked.
  • If it gives you a warning at program start about rootkit activity and asks if you want to run a scan...click NO.
  • Click on the Rootkit tab.
  • Look at the right hand side (under Files) and uncheck all drives with the exception of your C drive.
  • Make sure all other boxes on the right of the screen are checked, EXCEPT for "Show All".
  • Click on the "Scan" and wait for the scan to finish.
Note: Before scanning, make sure all other running programs are closed and no other actions like a scheduled antivirus scan will occur while this scan completes. Also do not use your computer during the scan.
  • When completed, click on the Copy button and right-click on your Desktop, choose "New" > Text document. Once the file is created, open it and right-click again and choose Paste or Ctrl+V. Save the file as gmer.txt and copy the information in your next reply.
  • Note: If you have any problems, try running GMER in SAFE MODE"
Important! Please do not select the "Show all" checkbox during the scan..

Due to lack of response this topic is now closed.

If you still require help, please open a new thread in the Infected? Virus, malware, adware, ransomware, oh my! forum, include a fresh FRST log, and wait for a new helper.
