Hello and welcome to Malware Removal.

My name is peku006 and I will be helping you to remove any infection(s) that you may have.
I will be giving you a series of instructions that need to be followed in the order in which I give them to you.

Please observe these rules while we work:

  • I f you don't know or understand something please don't hesitate to ask
  • Please DO NOT run any other tools or scans whilst I am helping you.
  • It is important that you reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.
  • Your security programs may give warnings for some of the tools I will ask you to use. Be assured, any links I give are safe.
  • Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear.

1 - Download and Run ToolBar S&D

Download ToolBar S&D to your desktop.

Disable your antivirus and antimalware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ToolBar S&D.
  • Double-click ToolBar S&D.exe
  • Choose the language, then choose Option 1 (Search)
  • Wait till the end of the scan.
  • Notepad will open containing the report log.
  • Post that log in your next reply.
  • A copy will also be saved in (%SystemDrive%\TB.txt)

2 - download and run RSIT

  • Download random's system information tool (RSIT) by random/random from here and save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on RSIT.exe to run RSIT.
  • Click Continue at the disclaimer screen.
  • Once it has finished, two logs will open. Please post the contents of both log.txt<- (will be maximized) and info.txt<- (will be minimized)

4 - Status Check
Please reply with

1.the logs from RSIT (log.txt ,info.txt)
2. the TB.txt

Thanks peku006

Hi jm_1500

1 - Run ToolBar S&D

Disable your antivirus and antimalware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ToolBar S&D.
  • Double-click ToolBar S&D.exe
  • Choose the language, then choose Option 2 (Fix)
  • Deleting Toolbar files / folders / services
  • Deleting Toolbar registry keys
  • Deleting nasty extensions ( XP only )
  • Creating a backup in the folder %SystemDrive%\ToolBar SD\Backup-TB
  • Wait till the end of the scan.
  • Notepad will open containing the report log.
  • Post that log in your next reply.
  • A copy will also be saved in (%SystemDrive%\TB.txt)

2 - Run Hijackthis
Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad

3 - Status Check
Please reply with

1. the TB.txt
2. a fresh HijackThis log
Thanks peku006

So, i started in safe mode thinking that this would disable AVG...ran the tool and noticed that AVG was still active. that is the first scan. Then removed (temporarily) AVG and rescanned. that is the second scan. Then the HiJackThis log.

jm_1500,
We appreciate the kind thought. I will pass it along when I can get in touch with him.

As you can see, your scan result is quite good.
Let's review the security of your installed programs.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Retrieve the List of Installed programs Using HJT
Open HijackThis, click Open The Misc Tools Section. Then scroll down the list if you need to, click Open Uninstall Manager and Save List...
The List of installed programs will automatically be saved as uninstall_list.txt in your HiJackThis folder. In addition, the list opens in Notepad so you can also save as another name in another location if you wish. Please paste the contents into your next reply.
Click the "X" in the upper right corner of the HiJackThis window to close it.

jm_1500,
I don't see any antivirus on your machine.
You should go to Control Panel, Security Center and see what it says about your AntiVirus.
If it shows no active AntiVirus, Download just one of these free anti-virus programs, update it and run a full scan. Have it fix anything it finds.
Consider this an Emergency until you complete it!
We are removing some older vulnerable programs here, updating Adobe Reader and checking on the presence of a toolbar.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Remove log items with HighjackThis. Start HijackThis.
Click Do System Scan Only. When the Scan is complete, Check the following entries:
(Some of these lines may be missing)
O2 - BHO: Adobe PDF Conversion Toolbar Helper - {AE7CD045-E861-484f-8273-0445EE161910} - C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 8.0\Acrobat\AcroIEFavClient.dll
O2 - BHO: Adobe PDF Reader Link Helper - {06849E9F-C8D7-4D59-B87D-784B7D6BE0B3} - C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Acrobat\ActiveX\AcroIEHelper.dll
O2 - BHO: Adobe PDF Reader Link Helper - {06849E9F-C8D7-4D59-B87D-784B7D6BE0B3} - C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Acrobat\ActiveX\AcroIEHelper.dll
O3 - Toolbar: Adobe PDF - {47833539-D0C5-4125-9FA8-0819E2EAAC93} - C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 8.0\Acrobat\AcroIEFavClient.dll
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Acrobat Assistant 8.0] "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 8.0\Acrobat\Acrotray.exe"
O4 - Global Startup: Adobe Reader Speed Launch.lnk = C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 7.0\Reader\reader_sl.exe
O8 - Extra context menu item: Append to existing PDF - res://C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 8.0\Acrobat\AcroIEFavClient.dll/AcroIEAppend.html
O8 - Extra context menu item: Convert link target to Adobe PDF - res://C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 8.0\Acrobat\AcroIEFavClient.dll/AcroIECapture.html
O8 - Extra context menu item: Convert link target to existing PDF - res://C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 8.0\Acrobat\AcroIEFavClient.dll/AcroIEAppend.html
O8 - Extra context menu item: Convert selected links to Adobe PDF - res://C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 8.0\Acrobat\AcroIEFavClient.dll/AcroIECaptureSelLinks.html
O8 - Extra context menu item: Convert selected links to existing PDF - res://C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 8.0\Acrobat\AcroIEFavClient.dll/AcroIEAppendSelLinks.html
O8 - Extra context menu item: Convert selection to Adobe PDF - res://C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 8.0\Acrobat\AcroIEFavClient.dll/AcroIECapture.html
O8 - Extra context menu item: Convert selection to existing PDF - res://C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 8.0\Acrobat\AcroIEFavClient.dll/AcroIEAppend.html
O8 - Extra context menu item: Convert to Adobe PDF - res://C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 8.0\Acrobat\AcroIEFavClient.dll/AcroIECapture.html

Make sure Every other window except HJT is closed (No other tabs showing in the bottom tray), and Click Fix Checked
Click the "X" in the upper right corner of the HiJackThis window to close it.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Now we will remove the older Adobe Reader and all but the latest version of Java Runtime Environment.
Remove Programs Using Control Panel
From Start, Settings, Control Panel or Start, Control Panel, click Add/Remove Programs.
Highlight each Entry, as follows, one by one, if it exists, and choose Remove :
Adobe Reader 7.0.9
Java(TM) 6 Update 2
Java(TM) 6 Update 3
Java(TM) 6 Update 5
Java(TM) 6 Update 7
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment 6 Update 1

Take extra care in answering questions posed by any Uninstaller. Some questions may be worded to deceive you into Keeping the program.
--------------------------------------------------------
Download Newest Adobe Reader
You should download and install the newest version of the free Adobe Reader for reading pdf files, due to vulnerabilities in earlier versions of Reader and Acrobat.
All versions of Acrobat and Reader numbered lower than 9.1 are vulnerable.
  • Go here and click on AdbeRdr910_en_US.exe to download the latest version of Adobe Acrobat Reader.
  • Save this file to your desktop and run it to install the latest version of Adobe Reader.
You can keep your full version of Adobe Acrobat 8.1.5 Professional, but you should use it for editing and creation of pdf's only, NOT for opening pdf's on the net.
You can still call Adobe Acrobat 8.1.5 Professional from Start, All Programs
--------------------------------------------------------
You still appear to have a nasty toolbar named Search Settings. Let's see if this tool sees it.
Download and Run ToolBar S&D
Download ToolBar S&D and save to your desktop.
Disable your antivirus and antimalware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ToolBar S&D.
If you don't know how to disable your AntiVirus, please ask and I will help.
  • Double-click ToolBar S&D.exe
  • Choose the language, then choose Option 1 (Search)
  • Wait till the end of the scan.
  • Notepad will open containing the report log.
  • Post that log in your next reply.
  • A copy will also be saved in C:\TB.txt
So we are expecting the contents of the log from ToolBar S&D in your reply.
Let me know how it goes
