I have not ever used Symatec.
I removed Webroot Spysweeper as instructed.
Downloaded and installed OTS again with no better results.
I noticed this time in the status bar that it reads ...servicehost.exe just before it disappears.
Not sure it that is helpful but I thought it worth a mention.
Thanks,
Ian

This is in your uninstall list: Symantec Network Drivers Update
As you aren't using any symantec product you can uninstall it then reboot your computer.

Step 1:
Go here and download USEC.at's radix_installer_trial.zip. Then unzip that and click the radixgui.exe to open the scan display.

Then without making any changes click the Check button to start the scan. Once it has completed click the Save Log button and save that to a location you can return to. Then click the "X" to close the Radix scanner.

!!!Caution - the Radix scanner has many settings and options, including many that can cause quick and permanent corruption to your operating system. Avoid the temptation to try any other options, scans or settings when using it.

That will be a very large log file, so zip a copy of it and attach it to your next reply please.

Symatec is not listed in my "add or remove programs" menu. It is only under my application data folder so I am not sure how to uninstall it. Please advise.

Sadly Norton products don't always uninstall as they should, fortuneatly there is a tool that should do the job.

Please download the Norton Removal Tool and Save it to your Desktop.

  • Close all programs and double-click the Norton_Removal_Tool.exe then click Run
  • Follow the on-screen instructions.
  • Restart the computer if asked.
  • Then delete Norton_Removal_Tool.exe from your desktop.

Here is the file as requested. Just wanted to mention that it gave me warning pop ups when performing SDT Hooks and IAT Hooks scan. Not sure if this is relevant, just thought I would mention it in case.
Thanks,
Ian

Sorry for the delay, I had a huge amount of unforeseen work over the weekend and wasn't anywhere near a computer. I'll check over the log now and have a reply for you shortly.

Step 1:
1. Close any open browsers.

2. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

3. Open notepad and copy/paste the text in the quotebox below into it:

Registry::
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\shared tools\msconfig\services]
"SymWSC"=-
"SNDSrvc"=-
"SBService"=-
"NProtectService"=-
"NISUM"=-
"navapsvc"=-
"ccPxySvc"=-
"ccPwdSvc"=-
"ccEvtMgr"=-
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\security center]
"AntiVirusOverride"=dword:00000000
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\security center\Monitoring\McAfeeAntiVirus]
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\security center\Monitoring\McAfeeFirewall]
SecCenter::
{84B5EE75-6421-4CDE-A33A-DD43BA9FAD83}
{94894B63-8C7F-4050-BDA4-813CA00DA3E8}

Save this as "CFScript.txt", and as Type: All Files (*.*) in the same location as ComboFix.exe

Image

Refering to the picture above, drag CFScript into ComboFix.exe

When finished, it shall produce a log for you at C:\ComboFix.txt which I will require in your next reply.

Step 2:
Note: Internet Explorer should be used.

Please go to Kaspersky website and perform an online antivirus scan.
  • Read through the requirements and privacy statement and click on Accept button.
  • It will start downloading and installing the scanner and virus definitions. You will be prompted to install an application from Kaspersky. Click Run.
  • When the downloads have finished, click on Settings.
  • Make sure these boxes are checked (ticked). If they are not, please tick them and click on the Save button:
    • Spyware, Adware, Dialers, and other potentially dangerous programs
    • Archives
    • Mail databases
  • Click on My Computer under Scan and then put the kettle on!
  • Once the scan is complete, it will display the results. Click on View Scan Report.
  • You will see a list of infected items there. Click on Save Report As....
  • Save this report to a convenient place like your Desktop. Change the Files of type to Text file (.txt) before clicking on the Save button.
  • Copy and paste the report into your next reply along with a fresh HijackThis log and a description of how your PC is behaving.

You have some leftovers from a Mcafee product, If you don't use any Mcafee programs you can run this uninstaller.

Download the McAfee Removal Tool.

Double click on MCPR.exe to launch it, then Click Run. A window should appear and disappear, this is normal. A new window should popup and begin the uninstall. When prompted to reboot your computer type Y.

Otherwise how is your computer running now, are you still having issues?

Due to a lack of response, this topic is now closed.

If you still require help, please open a new thread in the Infected? Virus, malware, adware, ransomware, oh my! forum, include a fresh FRST log, and wait for a new helper.
