Problems

Unread postby SHABOY » May 13th, 2009, 7:42 am

I got a variety of issues. My USB and Firewire ports are no longer recognising anything, Internet Explorer and Firefox are being redirected, and all my system restore points have been deleted.

Furthermore, these error boxes keep coming up on a constant basis:
1) http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa45 ... b/box1.jpg
2) http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa45 ... b/box2.jpg

Here's the HJT log:

I've tried using several anti-virus progs, including Windows Defender, AVG Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. The malware bytes log is here, if it's of any use: http://www.geocities.com/the_nsba/mbam- ... -05-13.txt

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Hi SHABOY

One or more of the identified infections is a backdoor trojan.

This allows hackers to remotely control your computer, steal critical system information and Download and Execute files

I would counsel you to disconnect this PC from the Internet immediately. If you do any banking or other financial transactions on the PC or if it should contain any other sensitive information, please get to a known clean computer and change all passwords where applicable, and it would be wise to contact those same financial institutions to apprise them of your situation.

Though the Trojan has been identified and can be killed, because of it's backdoor functionality, your PC is very likely compromised and there is no way to be sure your computer can ever again be trusted. Many experts in the security community believe that once infected with this type of Trojan, the best course of action would be a reformat and reinstall of the OS. Please read these for more information:

How Do I Handle Possible Identify Theft, Internet Fraud and CC Fraud?

When Should I Format, How Should I Reinstall

We can attempt to clean this machine but i can't guarantee that it will be 100% secure afterwards.

Should you have any questions, please feel free to ask.

Please let us know what you have decided to do in your next post

Yikes. In that case, I'd be tempted to go for the system restore, but I don't even know if I can do that. There are no restore points available and the PC (an Acer model) did not, to my knowledge, come with any kind of restore disc. Is it possible that I am simply unable to do a reformat?

Thanks for your feedback.

System restore won't help here as infected files will stay in hard drive.

Acer computer should have recovery partition in hard drive which you can use to revert computer back to factory defaults.

This should help.

Due to lack of response this topic is now closed.

If you still require help, please open a new thread in the Infected? Virus, malware, adware, ransomware, oh my! forum, include a fresh FRST log, and wait for a new helper.
