This looks just like Spyware Protect 2009 - same pop-ups and messages. This is the third time I've had someone I know get hit this spring.

Re. Registry Mechanic 8.0

I don't personally recommend the use of ANY registry cleaners.
Here is an excerpt from a discussion on regcleaners
Most reg cleaners aren't "bad" as such, but they aren't perfect and even the best have been known to cause problems.
The point we are trying to make is that the risk of using one far outweighs any benefit.
If it does work perfectly you will not see any difference
If it doesn't work properly you may end up with an expensive doorstop.

http://forums.whatthetech.com/Regcleaner_t42862.html

I also recommend you uninstall Weatherbug which is an unsolicited commercial software and has been known to bundle spyware. And, I also recommend you uninstall Viewpoint which is considered as foistware instead of malware since it is installed without user's approval. Uninstall Viewpoint Manager and Viewpoint Media Player via add/remove programs. To prevent it from being recreated every time you run the AOL software:
  • Open AOL
  • Go to Help on the toolbar
  • Select About AOL
  • Hit Ctrl D and a secret panel can be accessed which will allow you to disable all desktop and IM features associated with Viewpoint.
--------------------------------------------------

Please copy (Ctrl+C) and paste (Ctrl+V) the following text in the code box to Notepad. Save it as "All Files" and name it FixHost.bat. Save it on your desktop.

Code: Select all
@echo off
Pushd\Windows\System32\Drivers\Etc
Attrib -H -S -R Hosts
Echo 127.0.0.1 Localhost>HOSTS
Attrib +R +H +S Hosts
Popd
Del %0

Double click FixHost.bat to run it. It will self delete when completed.
--------------------------------------------------

Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware.
  • Double-click on mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
  • At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to:
    • Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
    • Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click finish.
  • If an update is found, downloading will commence to install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Copy and paste the contents of that file in your next reply.

Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts, click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process, if asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately.
--------------------------------------------------

Download DDS and save it to your desktop from here or here or here.
Disable any script blocker, and then double click dds.scr to run the tool.
  • When done, DDS will open two (2) logs:
    1. DDS.txt
    2. Attach.txt
  • Post both of the reports in your next reply.

Re: Antivirus System Pro attack

At present the available free space is at a exceedingly dangerous level:
C: is FIXED (NTFS) - 34 GiB total, 0.5 GiB free.

This is far below the considered safe level of 15% free space. You will need to delete any un-needed files, programs, videos, pictures or move them onto another drive before we can continue with the malware removal process.
--------------------------------------------------

Download ATF Cleaner to your Desktop.
Double-click on ATF-Cleaner.exe to start the program.
    Under Main choose: Select All
    Click the Empty Selected button.
If you use Firefox browser
Click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
    Click the Empty Selected button.
Note: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
If you use Opera browser
Click Opera at the top and choose: Select All
    Click the Empty Selected button.
Note: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.
--------------------------------------------------

Note: for the CHKDSK portion you may refer to this tutorial of Dakeyras' here and follow the instructions for Graphical Mode if you so wish.

  • Click Start >> Run... then type in CMD and click on OK.
  • At the Command Prompt C:\ > type the following:
  • CD C:\ and hit the Enter/Return key.
  • Now type in DEFRAG C: -F
  • A Analysis report will be displayed and then Windows will start the Defragmention run automatically.
  • This may take some time, when completed the Command Promtp C:\ > will appear.
  • Now type in CHKDSK C: /R and hit the Enter/Return key.
  • When prompted with:
CHKDSK cannot run because the volume is in use by another process
Would you like to schedule this volume to be checked next time the system
restarts (Y/N)
  • Hit the Y key then at the Command Prompt C:\ >
  • Type in EXIT and and hit the Enter/Return key.
  • Now Reboot(Restart) your computer.

Note: Upon Reboot(Restart) the CHKDSK(check-disk) will start and carry out the repairs required.

You should see a screen like this just after the Post(power on self test) screen:

Image

Note: Do not touch either the keyboard or Mouse, otherwise the Check-Disk will be canceled and you computer will continue to boot-up as normal.[/quote]

In your next reply tell me how much free space is now available.

Due to a lack of response, this topic is now closed.

If you still require help, please open a new thread in the Infected? Virus, malware, adware, ransomware, oh my! forum, include a fresh FRST log, and wait for a new helper.
