I just successfully cleaned a friend's PC of a trojan, rootkit and assorted spyware with Malware Bytes and Spy Sweeper. I then flushed the old restore points by turning off System Restore and then re-booting and turning it back on. It did not create a restore point and when I tried manually I got the very helpful message that "System restore could not create a restore point. Re-boot and try again" Yeah right. After hours online with James in New Delhi(?) or somewhere far away, he concluded that the only thing to do was a repair install.
Anyone here have a better idea? I would greatly appreciate it. I crushed those malware morons into the ground in 2 hours and have about 12 more in trying to fix system restore.
The malware must have damaged it but we re-installed all the files from the XP Pro CD and still bupkis.
Please direct me if I'm posting on the wrong board.
