Hello. I am posting here for the first time. I inadvertently installed WiniBlueSoft on my machine this evening, and it is interrupting everything I do, popping up warning windows, etc. I am running the Professional Version of Avast v4.8 on my machine. Thank you in advance for any guidance you can provide.

Here is my Hijack This log:

My name is DFW, and I will be helping you to remove any infection(s) that you may have.

Perform all actions in the order given.
Please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.
Stick with it till you're given the all clear.
REMEMBER, ABSENCE OF SYMPTOMS DOES NOT MEAN THE INFECTION IS ALL GONE.
Please do not try and clean your computer with any tools other than the ones I ask you to use during the cleanup process.
If you fail to reply in 5 days period from now, this thread will close, and you will have to open another topic, and wait for another helper.

Please note! that all instructions given are customised for this computer only, the tools used may cause damage if used on a different computer or infection.

Make a uninstall list using HijackThis
To access the Uninstall Manager you would do the following:

1. Start HijackThis
2. Click on the Config button
3. Click on the Misc Tools button
4. Click on the Open Uninstall Manager button.

Click on the Save list... button and specify where you would like to save this file.

When you press Save button a notepad will open with the contents of that file.
Simply copy and paste the contents of that notepad here on your next reply.

Please Post back

Hi podbay,

You are running a P2P filesharing programme.

IMPORTANT I notice there are signs of one or more P2P (Person to Person) File Sharing Programs on your computer.

Azureus Vuze

Please read the Guidelines for P2P Programs where we explain why it's not a good idea to have them.

Note: Even if you are using a "safe" P2P program, it is only the program that is safe. You will be sharing files from uncertified sources, and these are often infected. The bad guys use P2P filesharing as a major conduit to spread their wares.

Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and uninstall the programs listed above (in red) NOW.

Post back a new HijackThis, so we can continue cleaning your pc.

Next

  1. Open HijackThis.
  2. Click on the Open the Misc Tools section button.
  3. Look under System tools.
  4. Click on the Open Uninstall Manager... button.
  5. Select HDExtrem and click on Edit uninstall command button.
  6. Copy and paste this command to a document.
  7. Repeat for Safari and VC80CRTRedist - 8.0.50727.762.
  8. Please post the 3 Uninstall commands in your next reply.

Hello DFW. Thank you! I located and uninstalled HDExtrem from my Control Panel.

However, I am unable to establish a connection at the link in your last message for the anti-malware program. The link is here: http://www.besttechie.net/tools/mbam-setup.exe. I also tried going to http://www.malwarebytes.org, and it is not working either.

Wanted to mention that WiniBlueSoft acts as if it has taken over my Security Center, but only from its icon in my system tray. In the system tray Security Center, it reports that Virus Protection is off and asks that WiniBlueSoft be turned on; it also disables Security Settings for IE, Windows Firewall and Automatic Updates, redirecting to a window that says my computer is infected with spyware and recommending that I register WiniBlueSoft. When I open Security Center from Control Panel, it correctly notes that "avast! antivirus 4.8.1335 [VPS 090418-0] is on, and all Security Settngs links open correctly.

It is also generating a "Security Center Alert" every minute, popping two windows, one from each lower corner, advising of a different threat, and then a "Spyware Alert!" window pops up from the Security Center in the system tray.

Please advise, thank you.

Hi, Thanks for your report, unfortunately you never clicked to fix items, so you need to run Malwarebytes again.
It shows in the log no action taken.

Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and check for updates.[/b]
Select the Scanner tab. Click on Perform full scan, then click on Scan.
Leave the default options as it is and click on Start Scan.
When done, you will be prompted. Click OK, then click on Show Results.
Checked (ticked) all items and click on Remove Selected.
After it has removed the items, Notepad will open. Please post this log in your next reply. You can also find the log in the Logs tab. The bottom most log is the latest.

If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts, click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process,if asked to restart the computer, please do so immediatly

Please download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri)

Double-click SmitfraudFix.exe.
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).
Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.

**If the tool fails to launch from the Desktop, please move SmitfraudFix.exe directly to the root of the system drive (usually C:), and launch from there.

Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.

Good morning. The anti-malware program ran w/o any problems. I clicked on remove selected, it created the logfile which is attached, and asked to reboot, which I did. Smitfraud.exe also ran w/o a problem, from the desktop.

Hi podbay, this should help with the WiniBlueSoft rouge program.

I would print out the SmitfraudFix instructions as you are going to boot into safe mode.

Please download ATF Cleaner here by Atribune.

  • Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
  • Under Main choose: Select All
  • Recommend UNCHECKING COOKIES if you rely on system remembered passwords.
  • Click the Empty Selected button.

    If you use Firefox browser
  • Click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All EXCEPT FIREFOX SAVED PASSWORDS
  • Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.

    If you use Opera browser
  • Click Opera at the top and choose: Select All EXCEPT COOKIES AND SAVED PASSWORDS
  • Click the Empty Selected button.
  • NOTE: If you would like to keep your cookies and saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.

Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear;
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press "Enter".
  • Choose your usual account.
Once in Safe Mode, double-click on SmitfraudFix.exe
Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press "Enter" to delete infected files.

You will be prompted : "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry ?"; answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter" in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.

The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found); answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter".

The tool may need to restart your computer to finish the cleaning process; if it doesn't, please restart it into Normal Windows.
A text file will appear onscreen, with results from the cleaning process; please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.
The report can also be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt

Warning : running option #2 on a non infected computer will remove your Desktop background.

Hello. I was successful in downloading the ATF Cleaner and running it. I am not able to boot into safe mode. When I follow your instructions (gently tapping the F8 key), the menu that appears in DOS is this one:

Please select boot device:

1st Floppy Drive
HDD: PM-ST3750330AS
CDROM: SM-HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GH20NS

I tried choosing the first option, and it seems to boot into normal mode. Would you suggest I try this option, or do you have another recommendation? I'm surprised it didn't work, because I recall being able to boot in Safe Mode on this computer some months ago.

Please advise, thank you.

Hi Hi podbay

Your HijackThis logs are hard to read, please open Notepad, go to the Format menu and untick wordwarp.

We now need to Download and run Combofix

ComboFix SHOULD NOT be used unless requested by a forum helper

Download ComboFix from one of these locations:
A word of warning: Please do not run ComboFix on your own. it tool is not a toy and not for everyday use.

Link 3

IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop

  • Very Important!, before running Combofix Temporarily disable your anti-virus, script blocking and any anti-malware real-time protection before performing a scan.
They can interfere with ComboFix or remove some of its embedded files which may cause "unpredictable results".

    Turn off avast! Antivirus
Right click on the avast! icon in system tray (looks like this: Image) and choose (Stop On-Access Protection)

  • Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.
  • As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.
  • Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.
**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.
When finished, it shall produce a log for you.

Please Post back the log below so we can continue cleaning the system.
