HijackThis Log File

Unread postby peter424 » April 5th, 2009, 10:47 am

Hi,
Attached is the copy of my laptop's Hijackthis log file. This was made under a full normal boot from the machine. Running Vista home basic. Whatever it is disabled all my antivirus stuff. All the shortcuts to anything having to do with cleaning have that defender shield on them and the programs will not run. Additionally, it won't let me run combofix to even get a log, says access denied, must be administrator and such. For quite some time prior to this meltdown, some things were a little off, for example, Hotmail was slow and crashed/froze often. I took it off network, was able to change the name of hijackthis, ran it and here is the full log file:

Hello and sorry about the delay,

Welcome to the Malware Removal Forums! My name is Adam and I will be assisting you with getting the malware off of your computer. Please observe the following points before we start:
  1. If at any point you don't understand something, please let me know and I will be glad to expain or go more into depth for you. :)
  2. Please remember, I am a volunteer and I have a personal life. I go to school full time, have a part time job, and I do sports. A lot of this takes a lot of time.
  3. Please keep all of your replys in this topic/thread and do not make a new topic/thread, thanks!
  4. Please stick with this, don't stop responding because the symptoms are gone, the infection could still be there. Keep replying to my posts until I give you the All Clean message. ;)
  5. If you don't reply within five days after my last instructions this topic will be closed. If you will not be able to reply within five days please tell me so the topic will not be closed.
  6. Please do not run other tools to remove the malware unless I ask you to until I give you the all clean. They will just mess up my fixes and make things more complicated, not fix the problem.

If you still need help, please do the following:

RSIT
  • Download random's system information tool (RSIT) by random/random from here and save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on RSIT.exe to run RSIT.
  • Click Continue at the disclaimer screen.
  • Once it has finished, two logs will open. Please post the contents of both log.txt (<<will be maximized) and info.txt (<<will be minimized)

Please do NOT try to run ComboFix or any other security program without asking me first until we are finished. Especially Combofix, it is a VERY powerful tool and should never be used without the supervision of someone trained in it's use. It can cause irreparable damage if used incorrectly.

Regards,
Adam

Hi Adam-
Thanks so much for answering me. No prob for the delay. I know you guys are real busy. Meanwhile, I had to try to get the machine running. I was able to get a small folder filled with backup info onto another pc, and then tried to format the hard drive and completely reinstall windows. I'm not new to this stuff, but I'm having trouble getting that done as well. Lots of hard drive errors and such. Now on my third time trying to reinstall windows! Can this sort of thing somehow wreck a hard drive?? Can the thing jump into the hard drive cache (that doesn't get formatted?? Anyway, I'm sure you don't help with windows reinstall, and I'm pretty sure I can do it..........if, I can repair the hard drive. Anyway, thanks again. Please let me know if there are any special procedures I have to take with formatting hard drive and reinstalling window. Be well.

Hello Peter,

This isn't a tech support forum but I can do my best to give you some advice. Firstly, the virus can't "wreck" your hard drive. Secondly, when reformatting you should delete the partition and then create a new one and format it. Then you should be able to install windows on it. It is possible that your hard drive or some other hardware is failing but I am not able to diagnose that and if you are still having troubles, then I recommend you post your question and problem at Bleeping computer.

Regards,
Adam

OK, thanks, Adam. I did full reinstall of windows (worked on the 3rd try) after a full formatting. I did not delete the partition itself. Hopefully, that's ok. I'll also check the forums. Thank you again. Peter

That should be okay if it installed.

Your welcome, Peter. I will have this topic closed now.
