IE Hijacked? Searches on Yahoo, Google Being Redirected

Unread postby jaggyjay » March 30th, 2009, 2:35 pm

Hello,

Even though I've taken great efforts to prevent my PC from getting infected -
it sadly got one.

When using IE to do searches on Google, Yahoo and MSN and clicking
on a link in the search results pages - I am being redirected to a completely
different site. Firefox doesn't appear to be infected, but I can't be sure.

Don't know how long this has been happening, but I just noticed it
yesterday.

Upon my initial investigation, I noticed that I have "lsass.exe" running
in the background which my research said could be a virus. Incidentally,
ZoneAlarm has it listed as "LSA Shell (Export Version)" under the
"Program Control". Needless to say, I immediately "blocked" it using
ZA's controls. However, I didn't delete the file as I wasn't 100% sure
it wasn't Microsoft's Local Security Authentication Server file -
a legit process file.

In addition, my machine takes quite a long time to start up -
about 8 to 10 minutes. It takes about 5 minutes to shut down. However,
this particular issue with the long start up/shut down times has been
happening ever since XP auto updated to SP3 sometime late last year.

Below is my HijackThis log file. My system is a Windows XP, SP3,
with IE v. 7 and FF v. 3.0.8. I also have MalwareBytes, Avast
Home Edition, and ZoneAlarm v. 7 installed.

Thanks in advance for the help.*****

Re: IE Hijacked? Searches on Yahoo, Google Being Redirected

Unread postby Carolyn » April 6th, 2009, 7:39 am

Hello and Welcome to the forums!

My name is Carolyn and I'll be glad to help you with your computer problems. HijackThis logs can take some time to research, so please be patient with me. I know that you need your computer working as quickly as possible, and I will work hard to help see that it happens.

Please do not run any other tool untill instructed to do so!
Please reply to this thread, do not start another!
Please tell me about any problems that have occurred during the fix.
Please tell me of any other symptoms you may be having as these can help also.
Please try as much as possible not to run anything while executing a fix.

If you follow these instructions, everything should go smoothly.

  1. Please download OTListIt2 by OldTimer from Geeks to Go. Save it your desktop.
  2. Double click on OTListIt2.exe to run it.
  3. Under Extra Registry section, select Use SafeList.
  4. Copy the lines in the codebox below.
Code: Select all
Drivers32

  • Return to OTListIt2, right click in the Custom Scans/Fixes window (under the blue bar) and choose Paste.
  • Click on Run Scan at the top left hand corner.
  • When done, two Notepad files will open. Please post the contents of these 2 Notepad files in your next reply. One log per reply please.

Due to a lack of response, this topic is now closed.

If you still require help, please open a new thread in the Infected? Virus, malware, adware, ransomware, oh my! forum, include a fresh FRST log, and wait for a new helper.
