Malwarebytes freezes during full scan, RUNDLL errors also.

Unread postby lquiros » March 29th, 2009, 3:47 pm

I receive the following errors when I boot my computer and when I run malwarebytes, full scan, it freezed during the scan.

Error loading: C: Docume~1\locals~1\protect.dll. The specified module could not be found.
Error loading: C:\windows\system 32\autochk.dll. The specified module could not be found.

I am a novice, so please provide step by step instructions. I think I'm infected with something. It all started with my icons disappearing and computer rebooting automatically. I fixed the icon thing. Then I started receiving the following iexplore.exe message "The instruciton at "0x9019ba09" referenced memory at "0x9019ba09". The memory could not be "read". Then I received another iexplore.exe message: "The instruction at 0x90d7bdb9" referenced memory at "0x90d7bdb9" could not be "written" and i could not open internet explorer. I seemed to have fixed those because they do not appear again, I can open internet explorer but computer still was shutting down. I ran HIJACKTHIS, AVG and malwarebytes. When I ran HIJACKTHIS, I clicked on analyzed the log which took me to "hijackthis.de website and it gave me a list. The following had a red "X" next to it:

01 - Hosts: 195.245.119.131 browser-security.microsoft.com - must be fixed!
021 - SSODL: exemplars - {2acf3add-341-4f2f-99cf-cc69785d1e90} - (no file) - extremely nasty

I clicked on fix it, which I now know I should not have done. Then I started receiving the RUNDLL errors I listed above. Now I'm trying to run malwarebytes, full scan and it freezes and the only way to shut down the computer is to press the power button. FYI - I assume the computer still shuts down but I'm not sure because I disabled that in order to run Hijackthis, AVG, etc. Quick scan shows no malicious items detected. Here is the recent HiJackthis log:

Re: Malwarebytes freezes during full scan, RUNDLL errors also.

Unread postby NonSuch » April 14th, 2009, 4:19 am

We are sorry you have waited so long for a response. As you can see, we are quite busy as are all the other help forums. Also, it is possible that you received no response because there was no malware evident in your HijackThis log.

If you still require help, please start a new topic and post a fresh HijackThis log, along with a complete description of all symptoms you are currently experiencing that make you feel your system is infected with malware. Also, in the same post, please include an Uninstall List.

To create an Uninstall List, open HijackThis and, from the Main Menu > click on the "Open the Misc Tools section" button > click "Open Uninstall Manager" > click "Save List." Save the list to your Desktop or any convenient location. Next, copy the contents of the Uninstall List and paste it into the same post as your HijackThis log.

This topic is now closed. Please start a new topic by following the HijackThis Guideline posted here, and be sure to include your Uninstall List: >Guideline for posting your HijackThis log<
