Re: A fake MS anti-spyware

Unread postby chryssi2001 » March 20th, 2009, 8:51 am

Hello jpanto2,

Go to Start-Settings-Control Panel, click on Add remove Programs. If any of the following programs are listed there, click on the program to highlight it, and click on remove. Then close the Control Panel.

    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 3
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6
    AskBarDis

While you are in Add/Remove programs also read my next post.
----------------------------------------------
REMOVE P2P PROGRAMS

IMPORTANT I notice there are signs of one or more P2P (Person to Person) File Sharing Programs on your computer.

LimeWire 4.18.8
Azureus Vuze

Please read the Guidelines for P2P Programs where we explain why it's not a good idea to have them.

Note: Even if you are using a "safe" P2P program, it is only the program that is safe. You will be sharing files from uncertified sources, and these are often infected. The bad guys use P2P filesharing as a major conduit to spread their wares.

Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and uninstall the programs listed above (in red) NOW.

Post back a new HijackThis, so we can continue cleaning your pc.
----------------------------------------------
Additionally please let me know:

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Key] C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Application Data\Key Folder\filename.exe

Do you know what this Key Folder program/folder is? Did you intentionally installed it? What is it's purpose?

C:\Program Files\eEye Digital Security\Blink\Blink.exe

You have software installed from the above Company.
Which software do you use?

The reason i ask is because you have an Anti-Virus which is Symantec and Online Armor as firewall.
You must not have more than one of the above programs.

ok i've removed those three programs how you've asked me. I also removed the P2P programs you asked me to. The key file folder i am not sure what it is. it is empty when i looked it up. should i go ahead and take it off? The eye blink is a trial i was using until we renew the subscription with Symantec. Is this ok? i removed the online armor now. ok thanks here is my log.

Re: A fake MS anti-spyware

Unread postby chryssi2001 » March 22nd, 2009, 4:17 am

Hello jpanto2,

ok i've removed those three programs how you've asked me. I also removed the P2P programs you asked me to. The key file folder i am not sure what it is. it is empty when i looked it up. should i go ahead and take it off? The eye blink is a trial i was using until we renew the subscription with Symantec. Is this ok? i removed the online armor now.

C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Application Data\Key Folder\filename.exe

Yes remove the Key Folder folder.

Is your subscription with Symantec renewed now?
If yes remove eEye Digital Security.
If you still didn't renew Symantec, we'll remove it and get a new free Anti-Virus before moving on. You have to be protected.

We may have a misunderstanding here.

You should have 1 Anti-Virus and 1 Firewall. Now you have removed Online Armor you are without a firewall. Please reinstall Online armor again.
----------------------------------------------
Download SDFix and save it to your Desktop.

Double click SDFix.exe and it will extract the files to %systemdrive%
(Drive that contains the Windows Directory, typically C:\SDFix)

Please then reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, the Advanced Options Menu should appear;
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press Enter.
  • Choose your usual account.
  • Open the extracted SDFix folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
  • Type Y to begin the cleanup process.
  • It will remove any Trojan Services and Registry Entries that it finds then prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
  • Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
  • When the PC restarts the Fixtool will run again and complete the removal process then display Finished, press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
  • Once the desktop icons load the SDFix report will open on screen and also save into the SDFix folder as Report.txt
(Report.txt will also be copied to Clipboard ready for posting back on the forum).
  • Finally paste the contents of the Report.txt back on the forum with a new HijackThis log.
----------------------------------------------
Please also answer to my questions, and let me know what steps you followed so i know if you are protected now.

Hello jpanto2,

Ok we renewed with Symantec do i still need the firewall? or i think it comes altogether

No, Symantec is different and Online Armor is a firewall.

If you have Symantec Internet security, it has a firewall. But If you have Symantec Anti-Virus, it doesn't include a firewall. I believe this is the one you have. So please re-install Online Armor.

Hello jpanto2,

Hopefully you rebooted and what Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware found are removed now. Let's proceed.
----------------------------------------------
Download and run Combofix
This tool is not a toy and not for everyday use.
ComboFix SHOULD NOT be used unless requested by a forum helper

Please download ComboFix from one of these locations:

Link 1
Link 2
Link 3

* IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop

  • Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools.
  • If you need help to disable your protection programs see here.
  • Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.
  • As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.
  • Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.
**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

Image
Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

Image
Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.
When finished, it will produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply along with a fresh HijackThis log.

If you need help, see this link:
