Infected by Google Redirect Virus ... Help appreciated!

Unread postby jess07 » March 26th, 2009, 5:04 am

Hi there,

For the last two days, about 75% of my Google searches in all browsers (Firefox, IE and Chrome) result in being redirected to the wrong links, and the browsers sometimes crash completely when I try to visit certain anti-spyware sites and forums. Here are the actions I've already taken:

- Full cleans with ATF Cleaner and CCleaner
- Complete scans with Malwarebytes, SuperAntiSpyware, & Avast, both in Normal and Safe Modes (no infections or malicious items found)

I read about ComboFix on another forum and I was able to download it, but it will not run in Normal or Safe Mode. (I get a small box that says "ComboFix" and it looks like it's loading, then the program ends and disappears from the Task Manager.)

Additionally, I'm no longer able to get sound on my computer. After every restart, I get a "Found New Hardware" pop-up box, and there's a yellow question mark in the Device Manager that says "Audio Device on High Definition Audio Bus" under Other Devices. There have been no new installations or hardware changes to my computer, and this happened immediately following the Google redirects.

Below is my HijackThis log; I've also been able to run logs in OTListIt2. I tried obtaining a log with DDS but it will not run.

Thank you SO much for any help you can provide!

Re: Infected by Google Redirect Virus ... Help appreciated!

Unread postby NonSuch » April 11th, 2009, 11:21 pm

We are sorry you have waited so long for a response. As you can see, we are quite busy as are all the other help forums. Also, it is possible that you received no response because there was no malware evident in your HijackThis log.

If you still require help, please start a new topic and post a fresh HijackThis log, along with a complete description of all symptoms you are currently experiencing that make you feel your system is infected with malware. Also, in the same post, please include an Uninstall List.

To create an Uninstall List, open HijackThis and, from the Main Menu > click on the "Open the Misc Tools section" button > click "Open Uninstall Manager" > click "Save List." Save the list to your Desktop or any convenient location. Next, copy the contents of the Uninstall List and paste it into the same post as your HijackThis log.

This topic is now closed. Please start a new topic by following the HijackThis Guideline posted here, and be sure to include your Uninstall List: >Guideline for posting your HijackThis log<
