And when hjt is started I get immediate flag that says some thing like....

system denied write access to host files, my need to be fixed manually

Try any of these :) here or here.
Disable any script blocker, and then double click dds.scr to run the tool.

Dan, After my last post I continued to get host errors an then dhcp stopped working I lost all availability to contact you
so I had no choice but to back up what I could and do a clean install of vista. I thank you for your time and effort
I think all is well now.
