Trojan BrisvA Aftermath

Unread postby bdeppa » March 9th, 2009, 8:08 pm

Hello,

My daughter infected my computer with a Trojan BrisvA virus from a Limewire .mpg file I suspect. I was eventually able to "remove" it using a download from Symantec. Unfortunately now my computer is quite slow and takes long time to establish netwrok connection. Internet Explorer is pretty much hit or miss when I use it, in terms of when it will work. It seems like it is running something before the computer eventually connects to the network. I play WoW a great deal and need things cruising again soon.

Thanks in advance fo your help!

I see from your HijackThis log, that your operating system is Windows Vista 64 Bit.

It is an unfortunate reality that the tools we use to analyze and remove malware will not work properly on 64 bit operating systems. Therefore, although some may appear to produce results, those results cannot be relied upon. Because of this limitation, it is almost impossible for us to correctly diagnose your problems. Additionally, any fixes we might attempt would carry the potential to do as much or more damage to your system as the malware that may be infecting it.

At this time, we have no one available with the necessary experience with 64 bit systems that would be required in order to inspect your machine manually. So, I'm very sorry but we lack the ability to help you at this time. Most likely, you will find the same or similar circumstances at other help forums.

I do see that you appear to be running two different anti-virus programs, avast! and Symantec. This is extremely dangerous for any operating system. You should be using only one anti-virus and only one firewall. I would advise you to immediately remove one of these software products. This may very well be a contributing factor for the problems you're currently experiencing.

If your problem is malware related, your only options may be to either seek local, paid, professional assistance, or to reformat your hard drive and reinstall your Windows operating system. There is always the possibility that your problem is not malware related, therefore, you may want to consider posting for help at one of the general help forums to see if someone there might be able to assist you with your problem.

The following sites have help sections for non-malware related problems, e.g., software and/or hardware problems:

http://forums.whatthetech.com/forums.html
http://www.techsupportforum.com

We are sorry that we are unable to help at this time and wish you the best of luck in finding a solution to your problem.

As the resolution of this issue on this 64 bit system falls outside the scope of this forum, this topic is now closed.
